Hi guys.  We're getting new users all the time on our own, as I see on this mailing list and in IRC.  But we'll hopefully get a lot more if we go out there and find those news articles and chat it up and link back to our web site.

I googled for "greenbytes zevo":

You can see a lot of articles, and I have commented on The Register, MacRumors, getgreenbytes.com, and a few others so far.  I have welcomed Greenbytes to the community, invited their collaboration on a community level, and requested their compliance with at least the letter of the law of the CDDL.  So I'm letting the general public know that Tens Complement never did so, and that Greenbytes has an obligation to their customers and a privilege of the greater community, and that we exist.  To be a free community with you all on the great invention that they call the Internet, and to have our rights protected by free software licenses, is an extreme privilege for everyone.

Greenbytes has publicly stated that they intend to move strongly with ZEVO.  So let's all be good stewards while we continue our own efforts.  If nothing else, you can contribute by talking about MacZFS online.  Every mention of our URL will increase search engine statistics and public awareness.  The general public believes that we do not exist, and this is part of how we change that, and recruit new engineers.

I have registered maczfs.org, which presently is just a URL redirection to the Google Code site.  So feel free to use it from now on, especially when you comment on any web sites, and I'll let you know when any further plans unfold there.

I have finally figured out how to enable Google Analytics on our Google Code site, and we've had 100 visits from 33 unique visitors between Saturday, July 21 and Sunday, July 22.

Ideally, you can reference our group like this:

Hey guys, if you want ZFS on Mac OS right now, check out http://maczfs.org/

That includes a URL format which is hopefully conveniently clickable, and which will be more likely to be followed by a search engine.

Also the front page of maczfs.org has a Google Plus +1 button, so you can increase it that way.  Google indexes your Google Plus page, and your buddies will see it.  And oh yeah, facebook and twitter and stuff.

So that's just FYI if you're wanting to share in your storage success.

Everybody loves statistics!  And graphs!!!  (see attachment)

I enabled Google Analytics about four days ago, on Saturday, so we just have stats for Sunday and Monday, so some of these stats might be weird.  "New visitor" would just mean "new since enabling the stats".  But.  I like stats.

Saturday's stats seem to be somehow gone, but I remember seeing something about 30 visits on that day.

On Sunday, the day that I started posting comments on articles about Greenbytes, we got 99 visits.  It is of some note that Greenbytes never published my comment, and today has deleted all comments from their announcement page.  All of which were congratulatory, except for one which was requesting source code.

On Monday, we got 359 visits, 152 of which were "new" visitors.

Overall, half the people are staying for only 10 seconds.  But hundreds are staying for minutes, ambling on mostly to the FAQ and the Getting Started guide.  I made a "quick links" menu at the top of the front page, to make those things easier to find at a glance.  I should write or find a document that explains in the simplest way why someone needs ZFS; Ten's Complement did a good job at that.  I set a "goal" metric to monitor downloads.  None yet -- assuming I did it correctly.

We're somehow the number one hit on Google for "benefits of zfs", thanks to that article that Alex copied from Sun.  lol.  Hundreds of referrals are coming in from my couple of comments on those articles, so feel free to Google for some articles and leave some comments which mention http://maczfs.org/.  We could use a *lot* more.  I updated the "OS X" section of the wikipedia page on ZFS.

Hey!  NetBSD has a ZFS port!  I'd never heard of that!  Gotta support the underdogs.  They cited us in their wiki!  Aww!  Years ago, I wrote a private email of moral support to Chris Rudd of the zfs-fuse project, just to encourage the understated significance of the project and to ignore the naysayers, and he was profoundly grateful.  Also, we had 257 site visits on Tuesday, with an average visit duration of 2 minutes and 20 seconds.
