I had an Apple RAID card with 4x 2Tb disks in a MacPro5,1, when the battery failed. My RAID5 setup became unstable, and I looked around for solutions to maintain a storage solution whilst I waited for a replacement battery.

I'd heard of MacZFS, and remember the ZFS literature on the Apple site being pulled, wondering what happened to the efforts behind it.

Found this site a few weeks ago, and followed the instructions, but it didn't seem to work for me at first (running 10.8.2).

Installed the 74.1 by the .pkg via the GUI instead, worked first time.

Formatted all 4 2Tb drives as ZFS, created a pool from all 4, (5.89Gb volume), and migrated all my data back.

No waiting for all drives to sync, no parity issues, it all works!

Not looking to put the RAID card back in any time soon!

Earlier today, caught the last few tumblr posts by JollyJinx here, seems to indicate CoreStorage can utilize ZFS volumes? Certainly sounds interesting? Guess this doesn't mean we can *completely* get rid of HFS+ on OS X? Or does it?

For the OS X startup volume, expect to use HFS Plus (typically JHFS+)

In Ask Different, under 'One mac, Two or more storage devices - how to divide things?':
