I have installed VMware Player 16 on latest Windows 10 (20H2, I have also tied 20H1) and spent some time working in such environment. Indeed I was able to run VMware guests and Hyper-V (WSL2) guests at the same time. However that possibility came with a huge performance loss of VMware guests (I didn't check or care about Hyper-V guests here). VMware guests became much slower - one could even see some tearing when scrolling windows accompanied by significant CPU load reported by CPU utilization meters. One of my apps has dropped frame rate to 20fps whereas it typically used to average about 60fps. You don't need to have running any Hyper-V guests to observe huge performance loss in VMware guest. It is just Hyper-V hypervisor - if it is active you are done and VMware performance is gone.

I installed Ubuntu in the VMware player. You just right click, and click "Change Desktop Background", and click "all setting" at upper left corner. Click "Displays" and change the resolution to 2560 by 1600.

It is now impossible to upgrade the VMWare Player as the original VMware-player-6.0.1-1379776 will not uninstall, giving the dreaded MSI error. Furthermore, when attempting to use the original exe to achieve a re-install one receives the message that the program will not run under this versions of windows. Any attempt to tell Windows 10 to run it in compatibility mode for either Windows 7 or 8 fails with the same message.

EDIT: I played an .mp3 song in Windows Media Player. Not only was it not affected by this problem but playing it also makes system sounds play normally. But again, that is a band-aid solution and I cannot use Windows Media player before logging in.

However, I can't use Ghost to image the Linux drive, so I'm using CloneZilla. I spun up a VM of CloneZilla in VMWare player in a matter of minutes and that was all well and good, but here is my issue: the VM is small (4 GBs) and I'd like to keep it that way since it's living on a 120 GB SSD. How can I save my images *outside* of the VM...just on my Windows C:\ drive.

I use VMware-workstation-full-16.1.2-17966106 w/ VMware-tools-windows-10.0.12-4448496 for D3d and OGL for XP guests (Also 2000 with older additions). Haven't tried newer versions yet since every time I do I have to modify vmware to run macOS.

In this step, we will install Ubuntu On VMware Workstation Player using the Virtual Machine created by us in the previous step. The player will also provide the options to install VMware Tools for Linux. Installing the VMware Tools is optional at this stage. We can always install it later. VMware Tools is required to have the optimal performance of the guest operating system installed on the virtual machine. Now start the virtual machine by clicking the Play Button as shown in Fig 10. It will start installing the Ubuntu as shown in Fig 11 and Fig 12 and provides the options to choose the language as shown in Fig 13.

Now enter the password provided by you while installing Ubuntu. The player will show the Ubuntu Dashboard as shown in Fig 33 and shows the intro steps as shown in Fig 34, Fig 35, Fig 36, Fig 37, and Fig 38.

In the Application field, enter the full path to the VMware Player executable, vmplayer.exe.If you installed VMware Player in the default location, this is:C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Player\vmplayer.exe

The quick installation method for creating virtual machines with current Windows and Linux operating systems is practical and takes just a few clicks. In the player window, go to Create a New Virtual Machine on the right and select an ISO file as the installation source. The player analyzes the file, usually recognizes the operating system used, and takes care of entering default settings such as the user name.

The VMware Workstation Player is particularly recommended if you want to use ready-made virtual PCs in VMware format. The player is also extremely reliable in combination with the Vcenter Converter from VMware.

Depending on the kind and version of the guest operating system, a shared folder displays differently. Go to Windows Browser > Network on a Windows guest OS to see a shared folder. A list of available computers on the network should appear, including one labeled vmware-host:
