I usually find a sharp crack with a 7lb lump hammer does the trick.
However the skill is in knowing where to hit and how hard.

Works with CD-Rom drives. Erm, the swearing bit, followed by
dropping it on the floor. Put the new one in, give the non-working
one to younger son, who puts it into _his_ computer just for fun, but
finds that it works perfectly . . .

My 32 speed generic CD ROM was really unreliable on some discs,
taking for ever just to get a directory, let alone data. Then I
changed the BIOS settings so that the mode was forced to 3 instead of
being set as auto. It now works ;-)

Sorting out all the bit that are sent back to us and then returning
them to the supplier(belive me a lot of boards, processors and stuff
get returned!) then if I've finished with that then I help fix systems.
