A few years ago when my eldest was at playgroup in Bournemouth, I was
asked if I would play Santa for the kids Christmas party. I was
approached by the playgroup leader who diplomatically said as your a
fat bloke you should fit the costume nicely.

I had an old mk1 cavelier, and I'd never had as many smiles and waves
by young mothers in all my life and as for the kids, they all thought
nothing of the fact Santa was driving an old wreck.

It was brilliant, especially the bit where I went upto boots
cosmetics counter asking for rouge for the red face bit and something
to whiten the old eyebrows.

Since moving up here, it always amazes me that kids will believe that
anyone in a Santa costume is him, especially when as they seem to
enrole someone thats about 19, 5ft-6 and about 7st. I wouldn't care
but it's not as if fat blokes are thin on the ground anywhere.

Has anyone else ever been roped into doing any of this?. Having seen
pics of Edward, I think he'd make an excellent Santa..... :)

He would, wouldn't he? <bg> I got my brother to do it many years ago
to a playgroup and like you said he was one of those 6ft 7 stone, but
the kids didn't care.
Last year my sister came home on a surprise visit from the States. We
got all the family down about 10, and she came in ho-ho-hoing. We
thought she would be sussed out immediately, but no one guessed and
she had to take off her beard and hat. What a wonderful Christmas that was!

Rebecca doesn't. She said that they are not the real Santa they
are just his helpers. They dress up as Santa as he is
too busy.

My mother was trying to prepare Rebecca for the fact that
she may not get the things she has asked for because Mummy has
to send him the money, write the labels and send the wrapping paper.
I couldn't believe it when Rebecca told me. I said she is joking
about the money but I have to send the paper and labels .
She really hasn't asked for much just a dog that you pull along
and a doll you can feel. £30 altogether.

> Has anyone else ever been roped into doing any of this?.

My ex used to. He is 6ft 4 in and skinny. He looked silly.

Talking of Santas . Rebecca is doing a school recital of a poem.
They each take a letter of the Alphabet and Rebeccas bit is
S is for santa who beings us...someone else says toys. Anyway
Rebecca came home and said that her friend James was to be Santa
and then she added but everyone said they only picked him
because he's fat. :( he has lost a lot of weight recently and
Rebecca said the teacher had said that.

Sorry to cut out most of your post (and I hope you get something
wonderful for Christmas, by the way), but I'm hoping you made a typo!

Missed that. Bloomin' C&W box has gone pop and we've had no TV
service since about 18.00 last night. Not that it bothers me that
much, I think the X-Files was about the only thing I might have
watched. I watched a bit of the documentary on Waco on my handheld
TV but the batteries ran out so I gave up :)

I played Santa when I was in infant school. Don't remember much about
it now. There's a picture in the attic somewhere.

There is a mailing list which keeps you up to date on the
labyrinthine machinations of people involved in the Waco affair. The
tenor of the articles is rather anti-FBI/CIA. If I can find its
address, I'll post it.

BG Indeed! Thank you for what I am sure was meant as a compliment. ;-)

Karen knows me too!!!

This kindly white haired old 'gentleman' is well past his sell by date
and has a still growing brood of grandchildren who fortunately live far
enough away to be aware of all of the warts, wens and bits that keep
falling off. That happens to all who live beyond their 'use by' date.

On the other hand, some of them are now well into the realms of
experimenting with life and enjoy sharing some of the less publishable
aspects that make life worth living.

Enjoying ageing as disgracefully as he has lived it,

I was Mary when I was about 9 years old - all angelic with the white
thing on my head and holding onto this plastic baby Jesus. All I was
concerned about was that Joseph wouldn't wriggle about to much and
knock the pair <or 3 counting our baby> of us off the table.

Mmmm. I was once cast as 'a little angel'.
In a subsequent production, after they had
got to know me a bit, they got the casting
better organised and I played 'the cheif ferret'

Oh, you didn't have to wait for me to be 17 for that!

Oh, a bit of seasoning, the odd herb or two.. I'm sure I'd be
*quite* lovely! (but of course, that's just me normally now, isn't it!)
