o Focuses
on the importance of organic waste recycling and composting

in Oceanside, CA

Staff Reports
·
City of San Diego
o The
City is increasing edible food recovery assistance
o The
City is continuing SB 1383 efforts with commercial customers while offering technical
assistance
o The
City’s I Love A Clean San Diego contract will be expanding to once again include
public landfill tours
·
County of San Diego
o The
County is surveying food recovery agencies to identify if there is additional
capacity available to recover edible food
o The
County is providing outreach to Tier I and II sites for food donation education
and assistance
o The
County will be conducting site visits to construction and demolition sites in
the coming months
o Staff continue to conduct outreach and site visits to commercial
and multi-family complex units regarding mandatory recycling and organic waste
o An update on the Organic Materials Ordinance will be
presented to the Board of Supervisors on August 31 at 9:00 AM
o Happy Hour for the BrewCycle group will be held
the week of CRRA (September 6-9) at Belching Beaver Oceanside. Date and time are TBD

EDCO
o Continuing
SB 1383 roll out efforts, including commercial business and multi-family
properties
o Option
for a future CAC meeting to be held at EDCO’s Escondido facility

o Members
asked about when commercial organics would roll out in City of San Diego for
EDCO customers
§ EDCO
is concentrating on exclusive (franchise) cities first then will branch out to others

League of Women Voters San Diego
o People’s
Ordinance
§ Will
be heard at San Diego City Council on July 25.
A “Yes” vote would add it to the November ballot.
§ A
simple majority from the voters would be needed for it to pass
·
If passed, this would remove the
prohibition to charge a fee for waste collection under the People’s Ordinance
§ A
study would then be undertaken to determine rates/etc
§ Laura
Anthony made a motion for this group, Citizen’s Advisory Committee, to support
putting this measure on ballot
