Thanks for the replies. I'm not aware that I changed the font settings, but I will check. I will note however that whatever is different on my machine only affects 2015 as my animation was made using CTRL+Tab to toggle between 2014 & 2015.
Indeed changing the display did sycronize the font sizes and restore the roll-over box to previous functionality, but there's no way I can use my UXGA laptop at those settings.. . text is too small. The text is scaled uniformly in 2011 through 2014, it's only the right column in 2015's Properties Palette that's displaying the wrong size text as far as I can tell.
That is an interesting observation, however my preliminary test show that while the Windows "Message Box" font size can be used to reduce the size of text on the right side of the Properties Palette, it arguably makes the problem worse because the right side text becomes smaller than the left size text when selected. Also, other "Message box" text, both within AutoCAD and other apps is now too small again... defeating the purpose of using Windows font scaling to make text more readable on a laptop display.
Please help! I just upgraded from 2014 to 2015 today. I have the exact same problem. Did you migrate your settings? Maybe that is what did it because i migrated after installation. All of my palettes have large writing just like yours. I can go back to autocad 2014 and they are fine just like yours. Did anyone find a solution? Every other text setting is good on my 2015, its ONLY any palette, (properties, xrev, sheet manager, too palette). Another thing driving me crazy is they moved the status bar at the very bottom left of the screen to the bottom right and i cant figure out how to relocate it back to the left where it was been since inception. Thank you!
I'm just wondering what font your firms use for their drawings in the construction industry. We're a small MEP firm and we currently use Simplex for our drawings. I've never really been a fan and am currently working on getting us to switch to something...more. Our spec on drawings are now going to be Arial (at least for now) because of a change in the way we process those. But that's easy enough to change to a different font in Word.
I just upgraded from AutoCAD LT 2005 to AutoCAD LT 2012. I commonly used a font that, on the 2005 version, was called a1.shx. It has been replaced, on the 2012 version, with archstyl.shx. When I go to "Manage Text Styles", under the "Font Name" there is a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it before the font name "archstyl.shx". I am assuming this means that the font is not currently available on my system because it is replaced with the simplex.shx (which I read was the default alternate font under "substitute fonts" in the users guide). There is not a font style on my current system that suffices as a replacement to the font I used on the 2005 version of AutoCAD LT. Is there anyway to import the old font to AutoCAD 2012? Is there a way to put new fonts on my system so that I can find an adequate replacement?
In a nutshell... the font you seek was an addon you got from somewhere else, it's not and never has been from Autodesk. Hope you did not trash your Lt2005 setup, then you can recover it (you might as well grab all those fonts just in case thre are others you need too).
Some of my TrueType fonts won't load in AutoCAD 2011 on Windows 7. Some similar fonts of the same family are loading, but certain fonts (important ones, of course) don't show up in the Text Editor font drop-down menu. I even exported a dwg from Illustrator using the font in question, and it came in as substitued for the default face. Does anyone know what's happening?
They are TrueType, but it looks like they may not be installed correctly. I can see these fonts in Adobe programs, but not other Windows programs (e.g. MS Word). There is no 'install' option on right-click, but Windows tells me the font is installed when I try to install it again.
In Control Panel Fonts, Open the font family in question, then right click and choose properties on one of the icons. Attached is my Chaparall (That Acad can't see) followed by a Bauhaus that Acad _CAN see.
Sorry to resurrect this topic, but I'm having this same issue and it's because the font I want to use is an Open Type Font. Is there any way for me to get this font to work in CAD? Are there any workarounds I can do to get this in my drawing?
Evidently the conversion routine you ran it through created a legit, non-PS outline font, which Acad can read and use. Caveat -- license issues may preclude the use of a proprietary font in a conversion tool like that. For safety, portability (and legality) I always recommend using only fonts that come OOTB in Windows or AutoCAD
I just got a new computer and installed autocad 2018 back on. when I open my drawings and look at my fonts/text I noticed that some of my fonts/text did not remain the same as they were on my last computer. for example I created a title block and made a writeblock out of it with the font I liked. now when I open a drawing and look at the same title block the font/text has changed, is their a way to have the font/text to come back to what it was on my last computer. also when I open a drawing I get a message box saying "Select Shape File: PLATESYMBOL.shx" not sure what the means and does that have something to do with my font not showing up correctly from my last computer?
For SHX fonts, fire up AutoCAD on the old machine. Say you are trying to find "mycustom.shx". At the AutoCAD command prompt, type in (findfile "mycustom.shx") and it will return the location of this file.
I was able to fix the problem with some help from autoCAD. I wasn't missing a shx file I was missing a true type font in my new autocad I downloaded. so I hooked up my old machine that had the font I wanted in autocad and exported it out of the old cad and into the new one and all my text/font was restored perfectly.
Thank you for your patience and for posting. I did get a response that the fonts would need to be included in the PDF in order for them to be searchable, but I also see that the text does still seem to be behaving as text.
I recently moved a user to a new PC and setup AutoCAD 2011 after resetting the license through the helpdesk. All works well, however when the user opens her drawings created in the old installation, all the fonts are too big and possibly the wrong type. There are other installations in the office which open the same files/drawings and the fonts/tect appears perfect.
No, the only thing to mention about SHX is that AutoCAD should be able to find them. To verify that start command _OPTIONS, goto tab "Files" and check that the path of the font-directory is listed under "Support File Search Path".
No, that's not the case, the STYLE definition that is stored in the drawing dictates what Font file to use when displaying the text. There is a FONTALT system variable, but that only comes into play whent the font called for by the Style defintion is missing. so if the requisit fonts exist, and ca be located, then that should not be an issue.
There a a couple of ways to check though -- type FONTALT at a command line porompt in Acad, and set it to GOTHICG.SHX. Close and re-open the drawing. If the questionable text now displays in a 'Ye Olde English' blackletter font, then the needed font is not being located, and a substiture is being used.
I have attempted several times now to change the fonts for my symbol library. I used the Modify Symbol Library tool. I verified that the symbols there did indeed accept the new font by opening several of the drawings themselves. However, no matter what I do, my symbols still come in with the old font. Here's what I did after modifying the library, and after researching the forums:
3. When that failed, I double-checked my paths, in both my profile and in the project properties. I even checked the path in the drawing properties. All three matched, pointing to the public documents folder on my machine. I checked the drawings in the library again. They still showed the new font that the Modify Symbol Library tool put there. So I restarted my machine. Tried again, still failed.
I am running into an issue with an existing drawing with a table. The table was locked so I unlocked the entire table so I can add a couple of rows. When I edit an existing cell the font changes to something that looks different. In the properties everything looks the same but something is different. I attached screenshots of the cells and the properties. Thanks in advance!
I use Rhino for my drafting, and for the most part it has been great. However, now that I have to work with others, I am realizing that I have an issue when I export my annotated drawing to autocad. The lines all work fine, but the text is not. It acts as though there is a text box that is too small, and so a single line of text becomes two. This becomes a big problem when I have multiple lines of text (specifying different elements of a structural detail, for example). Not only does it split the single line into two, but it then makes them separate objects. For my own work, I have been exporting the first to a dwg, opening it in illustrator, then exporting an illustrator file and copying all of the text objects and replacing them into the original file. This can sometimes be tedious. The Illustrator export likes to take multiple lines of text and make them one line, but that is much easier to deal with than the dwg export.
@RistPhoto Neither Windows Rhino nor Mac Rhino embed font files in the 3DM file or AutoCAD export files. Font files are copyrighted. For a font to have a chance of being reproduced correctly, the same font file must exist on both the source and destination computer.
Kartina is a Microsoft font, but is not intended for Western languages. It is meant for writing in Malayalam script. Does your client require text written in Malayalam script? If writing in Malayalam script is not a requirement, I would suggest switching to a font intended for western languages.
