Greetings Zero Wasters,

We have some wonderful events coming up where we can spread the word about composting, microplastics, food waste reduction, the climate connection and zero waste!  But we can't do this level of outreach without your support.

Please help us pull it together and make it work!   Consider giving a couple of hours of your time at any of the events below.  We particularly need extra help at Jazz Fest (Sat 9/6) and a lead tent organizer for VegFest (Sun 10/5).  Sign up HERE.

We need two kinds of helpers:

At our Zero Waste Stations: You will be a Zero Waste Ambassador, helping people sort their waste into food scraps, recycling and landfill bins.  At Jazz Fest we'll also be collecting cans for recycling.  The City has stopped using single use plastic cups!  Huzzah!

At our green Zero Waste Tent: You will be giving out information about composting and waste reduction, engaging people with quiz questions at our "spinning wheel" and demonstrating our worm bin.

Just let us know which volunteer position you'd prefer when you sign up for a shift on our spreadsheet HERE.
  • This Sat August 23 from 11 am to 2 pm: The Sheridan Ave Annual Block Party.  (2 volunteers needed) Enjoy good eats while helping us with food scraps collection and the Zero Waste information booth.  The party is at 160 Sheridan Ave (in front of the New Jerusalem Church)
  • Saturday Sept 6 from 12-8 pm: Albany Riverfront Jazz Festival.  (8+ volunteers needed) We will be at Jennings Landing Park in Albany along the river helping collect food scraps and cans, and giving out information at our green tent.  Great music & great people.  Fireworks at 8 pm on the river!
  • Saturday Sept 27 from 11 am to 3 pm: Colonie Harvest Festival.  (3 volunteers needed) At The Crossings Park in Colonie. Join us at our tent with other great vendors.  We are hoping to start a year round community drop off site at a neighborhood church this year.  Help us spread the word!
  • Sunday Oct 5 from 11 am to 4 pm: VegFest at the Albany Capital Center. (6 volunteers needed) We provide information and help collect food scraps.  Great vegan food for sale!
  • Sat. Oct 25 from 2-6 pm. Helping out at the Trick or Trot 5k Race. (6 volunteers needed)  In Washington Park, Albany.  We give out cups of water during the race so we can help the City avoid single use water bottles.  After the race we collect the peels from bananas and other fruit provided to the runners for composting.
Other news:
-Our next Zero Waste Capital District regular meeting will be this Monday August 25 at 6:30 pm via Zoom.  Here's the link: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/83229385629?pwd=WxOGTYJWbW3EfInQrQOdJB0iL5kE8u.1

Amy, it's wonderful to hear from you.  We'd be honored to have you join us.  You're always welcome!  Sounds like you've been doing some terrific work on climate resilience.

Hi Tina ~ It's been awhile. I live in Montana now and have been since 2020....post legislative fellowship, and my work with Munich Re quantifying the evidence for their Climate Resilience Domain. The pandemic drove me here where my mom lives. I continue to receive the notices for zero waste and I'd like to join this Monday, August 25th. I have the zoom link. Montana doesn't have a strong recycling system and  - I would like to hear more about what's happening back in Albany. Montana isn't NY......

I look forward to joining and could semi-regularly depending on my work schedule. I hope that's ok.....
If you recall, Daniel Kirk-Davidoff introduced us and we briefly met for coffee while I was with Senator Krueger's Office....
