Dear colleagues,

please consider signing onto the letter below organized by the WWF European Policy Office.
This seemingly nerdy battle about the "EU Sustainable Finance Taxonomy" could become very important, as the new European Central Bank president Christine Lagarde considers making climate change a priority and putting on some sort of "Green Quantitative Easing" (maybe even similar to the Climate Bailout we are calling for). This means that based on the taxonomy certain environmentally unfriendly businesses could be eligible to receive huge money injections - or not.
Please find the details on how to sign on highlighted below.

Cheers,

Kjell

Dear all,

This is just a quick reminder to please consider signing the open letter, if you can, and to inform any partner organisations of this letter. The official deadline for signatures is the 30th of October, though do please still send us your signatures after that date as we will try to insert them - the purpose is to have a letter that becomes a living document.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if I can help in any way.

Best,

Henry

  Dear all,

Following our successful first letter on ten points for the EU sustainable finance taxonomy, we are asking for your support again by signing another letter on a crucial part of the taxonomy process.

What's happening?

Tomorrow, 23rd of October, is the first day of negotiations amongst the European Commission, European Parliament, and European Council on the EU Taxonomy legal text. These negotiations always happen before any EU proposal becomes EU law.

They are crucial because, after this phase, the legal text can no longer be changed. This really is our last chance to make a serious impact on the rules governing the EU taxonomy

What's the problem?

As you can imagine, hundreds of lobbyists for banks, insurers, gas, nuclear, bioenergy, farming etc are also jumping at this last chance to influence the taxonomy. They're having some big successes: you may have heard, for example, that France and others have made sure the EU Council stated it was in favour of nuclear power.

We need to react and support our own 'champions'. This means making sure the Parliament team, which is being led by a Green MEP, as well as the more progressive EU countries, have all the support they can get.

We have therefore written a short letter with five key points: strong disclosure requirements, quick timeline, strong social safeguards, scientific criteria, a taxonomy of unsustainable activities. We plan to send it to EU finance ministers, Members of the European Parliament, and EU Commissioners.

What can I do?

1. We ask that you read this letter and inform us whether you can sign with your name and logo
2. Please spread the word to other partner organisations - as many as possible!
3. Please let us know if you could help to spread the letter on social media - graphics and suggested tweets will be provided soon

How do I sign on?

Please reply to hevi...@wwf.eu.

Please provide:

1. Organisation Name,
    Person Name, Position
2. Organisation Logo

An example of a signature, which you will find in the letter, is:

WWF European Policy Office,
Ester Asín, CEO

Please do not hesitate to write to me if you have any questions. Thank you for your support so far!

Best,

Henry

Dear all,

Thank you for your patience over the last few days, as we have sent many emails. Please note that this is still a living document, so any signatures from your contacts are still welcome. Feel free to circulate the document accordingly.

Signatories should reply to hevi...@wwf.eu with their name, position and organisation name.

Below is a brief update on communication.

Message: Please note that this is the key message: '50 NGOs from 16 countries have signed a statement (note: not an open letter) highlighting ten points they consider crucial for the EU taxonomy. This is to improve the technical work and to prevent conservative lobbies, such as gas and nuclear, from weakening the taxonomy'

Media: The Ten Points Statement will go live on Monday morning. This means it will appear on WWF EU's website and it will be included in a Monday newsletter by Politico Europe. It has also been sent to journalists at Euractiv and ENDS Europe, two other EU publications.

Twitter: We will be tweeting about it from our WWF EU Twitter page. On Monday morning, we will send suggested tweets to this group so you can promote it through your channels, too. We would encourage you to do that if you can.

Logos and quotes: We are unable, unfortunately, to use the logos and quotes some of you have sent - we just have not managed to put them together properly.

Please find the text attached for you to send to your media contacts alongside your reactions and quotes.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you. Thank you again for your patience.

Best,

Henry
