Dear allies,
I am writing to you today on behalf of Corporate Europe Observatory, Greenpeace EU, Food & Water Europe & Friends of the Earth Europe to ask for your support.
We are facing a climate emergency. People are already feeling the impacts of climate chaos, with record storms, droughts, and fires – hitting the global South hardest. This destruction comes from the gas, oil and coal industry’s core business which heats the planet and destroys communities.
These fossil fuel lobbyists have relentlessly tried for decades to deny science, delay, weaken, and sabotage climate action, and to protect their profits - despite knowing that their business model is killing our future. This stops now.
The only way forward is to ensure that climate policy is made entirely in the public interest. There is a fundamental conflict between the industry’s interests and the public interest – between their core business and our need to keep global temperature rise below 1.5 degrees.
We need to:
- Institute a firewall to end fossil fuel industry access to decision via lobby meetings, and positions on advisory bodies & gov. research bodies.
- Avoid conflict of interest
- End preferential treatment of the fossil fuel industry
- Reject partnerships with the fossil fuel industry
Sign our statement calling for fossil free politics now!
This statement will be used to launch the start of a Fossil Free Politics campaign led by a coalition of NGO’s across Europe. In September the campaign will launch, with this sign-on statement at its core, as we then begin to ask MEP’s, Commissioners and the Council to sign a fossil free politics pledge using this statement as ammunition and hopefully taking us closer to a fossil free politics future.
