Dear friends and colleagues,
I would like to invite you to use 5 minutes of your precious time to support this strategic action (see below) to stop locking Europe into Fossil Gas (Fracked and Liquefied "Trump" Gas, Gas from Azerbaijan, Russia and other repressive regimes, etc.) with public money. The EU Commission is actually very open to NOT supporting many of the projects on the list, so this is a very good moment to intervene with a comment.
For the climate and breaking our fossil addiction problem!
Kjell

Take part in the public consultation - email the EU Commission to oppose new fossil gas projects!
As part of a public consultation running until 19 June 2017, the European Commission is collecting comments on gas infrastructure projects likely to be part of the priority list of energy projects supported by the EU and European countries.
Have your say and tell the European Commission and European Member States that we don’t need more gas pipelines and gas import terminals in Europe! Fossil gas projects should not be declared priority projects and receive any EU funding. They extend the climate harmful era of fossil fuels, incompatible with a world below 1.5°C and 2°C.
How can you help?

Thank you for helping to build a fossil-free Europe!

Subject: Contribution: Public consultation on the 3rd list of Gas Projects of Common Interest
Dear Ms. Catharina Sikow-Magny,
I am writing to you concerning the public consultation on the 3rd list of energy Projects of Common Interest.
Last year, the EU ratified the Paris Climate Agreement committing its signatories to keep global warming “well below 2°C”. The EU has also committed itself to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80-95% by 2050. With its significant methane and CO2 emissions, gas is an important contributor to climate change and is not compatible with a zero-carbon future. The clock is ticking, we have less than a decade now before we reach the 1.5°C temperature rise threshold.
Energy projects supported by the EU have to be aligned with its climate targets – and can consequently not continue to prioritize gas.
Gas demand has fallen significantly in almost all Member States during the last years and will decrease further in the future with more incentives given to renewables and energy savings. Existing gas infrastructures are already underused and will be increasingly stranded with more climate mitigation efforts.
Therefore, I object to the EU Commission and Member States’ plans to prioritise the construction of new gas infrastructure projects as part of the Union List of “Projects of Common Interest”, which entails a host of benefits and the eligibility for funding under the European Connecting Europe Facility programme. Rather than contributing to extending the fossil fuel era, I urge you to prioritize energy efficiency measures, the expansion of renewables and the development of smart grids to increase a truly sustainable European energy security.
Please find an assessment of the respective project candidates attached.
Kind regards,
