Yesterday as a near-final text of a global climate agreement was released in Paris, over a dozen global movement leaders -- from Naomi Klein to Vandana Shiva to Maxime Combes -- put their support behind the mobilisation on December 12 with a powerful public letter. Here's part of what it said:
This gathering is about respect ... We know that our leaders have shown little respect—not for the rights of people on a planet torn by inequality and racism, nor for the red lines for a just and livable planet. Lines we should dare not violate. So we will stand with our bodies to draw red lines, committed to protect our common home from burning up.
Thousands of people are ready to stand with us at Noon on December 12 in the streets of Paris to demand respect for the lives lost by climate change. There's still time to join them -- click here to RSVP and get all the details.
We will be releasing the location of the action Friday afternoon at 1 PM at one of the final D12 briefings in Paris. You can also sign up for SMS updates to know the location as soon as it’s announced.
Every training for the action here in Paris has been packed. We've had to move to bigger rooms and add more sessions, and even then the space is completely filled. Hundreds more people are en route to the city to have the final word after talks are scheduled to end. This is getting big.
And the art will be big to match it. The arts crew has worked with volunteers to make a 106 metre long banner with a simple message:
There are just 2 days until we return to the streets of Paris for D12. This is a critical point in our planet's history. Be there with us.
