Dear everyone, 

OK, thousands of us have taken the poll on the plan, and it looks like we're loving it! So the plan is to hold marches or rallies, deliver a huge petition, ask our communities to embrace 100% clean energy, and use a green heart as our unifying symbol. Thanks for many great ideas to improve it too. 

Next step: some of us need to step up to leadership, to help the rest of us make this happen. This email is just going to the 49,000 of us who volunteered to help organise. In every place (city, town or village) we're looking for one or two Avaazers to volunteer to facilitate the others in their community. 

This is a big deal. It's not just about climate, although that is massive enough. It's about our movement, the largest online political community in the world, going offline. Our facilitators will, at least for this event and maybe going forward, carry that hope for the growth of Avaaz. Maybe you've been an organiser or activist before, maybe you haven't. This is a key moment when you choose whether to embrace a new leadership journey. Having done this myself in starting Avaaz, I can't tell you what gifts have come for me from it. If your gut or intuition tells you this right (and usually you need to silence fear to hear that voice), I hope you'll take the leap. Our success will be measured by how many of us do. 

To help you decide, here's some qualities that make outstanding leaders for what we need to do: 

1. You have a good balance of "yin" and "yang". Yin is your heart or emotional side - your ability to empathise, understand and encourage others - to be gentle with others and yourself! Yang is your strength - your ability to have vision and strategy, drive a process, and get things done, even when you encounter obstacles and opposition.
2. You feel genuine inspiration. If you're passionate about this cause, and about the kinds of causes that Avaaz campaigns on, your passion will be infectious. If on the other hand you're too motivated by ego or anger, you won't be able to create a great space that can bring people together.
3. It's the right time for you. You'll need to dedicate meaningful time to this (say, a few hours per week), and you need to be sure you can stand by the commitments you will make to others in your community.

This is likely to be enormously rewarding for you. I've met Avaazers all over the world, and it's a special kind of person that signs petitions or donates when no one is looking. Someone who genuinely cares, and hopes enough to act. It's just an awesome community of people who are a pleasure to join forces with. So if this feels right, take the leap!!! 

YES, I'll Be a Facilitator! 

We have to move fast, so please make a decision by today or tomorrow latest. We'll review all the facilitators we get, and in communities where we get more than one, we'll choose one or more people to play this role. And don't worry, you won't be alone - there will be online chat rooms where you can connect to other facilitators and volunteers as well as Avaaz staff in getting guidance. 

Everything we've done at Avaaz has been the product of a magic mix between an amazing community of citizens, and a great team of some of the finest people I've met. I see this step as blurring the distinction between those two - creating a much larger Avaaz team. And I can't wait to see what magic comes of it.
