Hello all......I'm new to the group and have called a few of you
already to see what I could do to reslove some of the issues that I
face with the Zelocity. I am a small time clubfitter (on my 3rd year)
and am still learning the in's and out's to proper clubfitting. I am
basically stuck with the Zelocity so I am trying to make the best use
of it when clubfitting. I know that many who have much more
experience than I do, say that it is displaying very inaccurate
readings. I have always known that the shot deviation was wrong after
the first time taking it to the range and I knew that the clubhead
speed and PTR readings were quite a bit off because I get numbers in
the high 150's and even 160's at times. I was never sure about spin
because up until recently I thought the spin to be fairly accurate
based on my carry distances on the range. I was wondering however if
you could scale the unit so it could be more accurate if you used
something like the Optimal flight software to compare it to? I have
tried to play around with the scaling assuming the ball speed and
launch angles on the Zelocity are correct but I can never get the
zelocity readings for carry to be comparable with optimal flight even
when I add in spin. I am assuming that these numbers from Optimal
Flight are scientifically calculated and they do make reference that
their default readings are at sea level which I am at. I did do a
launch angle measurement yesterday by literally going 15 and 20
degrees from the tee to the back of my hitting net (I have everything
set up outdoors) and marking the height across the back of the net at
both 15 and 20 degrees. I took my high def Video camera, set it to
the highest shutter speed, and started hitting balls to see where they
hit in relation to the lines that I made in the net. Then I compared
each shot with the readings that I got with the Zelocity. I must say
I was pleasantly surprised to see the launch angle readings to be
quite accuracte. A few times I hit the marked lines dead on at both
the 15* and 20* line and the zelocity readings were 14.7 and 19.8. I
guess I am at a loss as to why I can't get the carry readings to be
more accuracte when compared to Optimal Flight after I scale. There
must be something that I am not factoring in bacause the Carry
distance are off by as much as 2-10 yards. I am taking the launch,
ball speed, spin, and side spin numbers and putting them in the
equation in the OF software. Am I missing something here? Thanks!

Carry is not a reading from the LM but a calculation. So you can only
get it as good as the quality of the calculation permits. However even
with extremly good calculations you good input to make the calculation
provide the correct answer, if not then "Garbage in - Garbage out."

As you PureLaunch will not measure spin, will not measure horz. launch
angle, will not measure spin axis AND it's measured ball speed might
also be wrong there is enough "garbage in - garbage out". Even using
the OF software will not imporve that.

Then it seems that for the LaunchAngle your PureLaunch is doing a
beter job then mine but.......15 and 20 degree is a rather small
window. Mine when using the PL software will create acceptable results
between 20-25 degree. However below 15 it's values are between 10-5
degree to high and for LaunchAngles above 25 degree it's reported
values are between 2 and 6 degree to low.
