In August 2009 I contacted Zelocity about my findings when testing
version 5. I got no real answers. I also noticed the assumptions and
remarks made in the Purelaunch “buyer aware” thread and the response
to the newsletter article.

In the files section of this group you will find a paper I wrote about
the PureLaunch software. I created this document such that PureLaunch
owners can reproduce the results from this documents themselves. A
link to the needed software is included.

The following is the summary from this paper.

The PureLaunch application data displays values which are different
than the values being sent to the PureLaunch software from the “data
interface software”.

It also displays values which can not be calculated based on the
values that are sent to the PureLaunch software by the “data interface
software”. With only club speed, ball speed and launch angle it is
impossible to calculate values for:

- Side-spin
- Face angle
- Azimuth
- Angle of attack.
- Azimuth
- Swing path

Versions higher then version 1 of the PureLaunch software will not
longer indicate when spin is not measured but calculated. When not
using the original striped ball the PureLaunch software will (as far
as I can test) always produce calculated spin.

If there are either errors in my paper or you find that your findings
are not the same as mine, please let me know !

I sent your paper to Sean Smith about a month ago, then talked to him
about it on the phone. He said that he was not qualified to comment
on it and would pass it along to the technical folks, then get back to
me. So far, nothing. About 10 days ago I left a message on Sean's
voice mail to call me on another software issue (I'm getting 1-1/2
images of the Launch button on the Shot and All Shots screens) and
mentioned the paper. He has not called me back.

They have been invited to participate in our up-coming Mid-Atlantic
regional meeting scheduled for April 25th which is on "Fitting with a
Lauch Monitor and Video." So far, no response.

Everything is normal at Zelocity.

I guess there will never be a reply. :-(

Well very interesting reading, so in short what readings can I
actually rely on if any and is the old software any more reliable,or
accurate.
Thanks Andrew

If you use the PureLaunch indoor you can check the launch angle measured by the PureLaunch using some math. This you can use to adjust the PureLaunch settings depending on the deviation.

Clubspeed and ball speed are usable but not accurate.

All other values are neither accurate or reliable.

I find it hard to believe that ball speed and club speed are not
accurate. I would think that if Sport Sensors can measure club speed
or ball speed for $100 that the Zelocity wiould be able to measure
them at $4000.

For what it's worth, my Zelocity and my P3 club head speeds are very close
as is ball speed.

Hard to believe, but unfortunately true.  You can get a flavor of just two of the numerous tests/experiments I have participated in by reading two documents ( PureLaunch™ Issues and Errors.doc and Scaling Experiment.doc) I previously uploaded to the Z Users file list.  With my unit, ball speed is much more believable...club head speed (particularly slower speeds < 85 mph) are suspect.

As Ron indicated you will find some examples here on this group.

When I used the P3 it could not measure the ball speed!! I do not think that has changed?
