Dropbox was installed before the upgrade to Windows 11. It has run completely fine but with the recent update to dropbox I was told I needed to update to the latest version in order to continue using Dropbox. However, despite my attempts to install the update it never starts.
I have since completely uninstalled Dropbox and downloaded the Full Off-line Installer for Dropbox which is having the same issue and will not start. I have tried compatibility mode, running as administrator. I get as far as UAC prompting me to approve running the app and then nothing. No error codes, no failure messages. Just nothing. I do not have an AV running besides built-in MS stuff and I have tried disabling all of that. Same results.

Docker Desktop's functionality remains consistent on both WSL and Hyper-V, without a preference for either architecture. Hyper-V and WSL have their own advantages and disadvantages, depending on your specific set up and your planned use case.
Containers and images created with Docker Desktop are shared between alluser accounts on machines where it is installed. This is because all Windowsaccounts use the same VM to build and run containers. Note that it is not possible to share containers and images between user accounts when using the Docker Desktop WSL 2 backend.
Running Docker Desktop inside a VMware ESXi or Azure VM is supported for Docker Business customers. It requires enabling nested virtualization on the hypervisor first. For more information, seeRunning Docker Desktop in a VM or VDI environment.
From the Docker Desktop menu, you can toggle which daemon (Linux or Windows)the Docker CLI talks to. Select Switch to Windows containers to use Windowscontainers, or select Switch to Linux containers to use Linux containers(the default).
Getting Started with Windows Containers (Lab)shows you how to use theMusicStoreapplication with Windows containers. The MusicStore is a standard .NET application and, forked here to use containers, is a good example of a multi-container application.
If you set proxies or daemon configuration in Windows containers mode, theseapply only on Windows containers. If you switch back to Linux containers, proxies and daemon configurations return to what you had set for Linuxcontainers. Your Windows container settings are retained and become availableagain when you switch back.
--admin-settings: Automatically creates an admin-settings.json file which is used by admins to control certain Docker Desktop settings on client machines within their organization. For more information, see Settings Management.
--always-run-service: After installation completes, starts com.docker.service and sets the service startup type to Automatic. This circumvents the need for administrator privileges, which are otherwise necessary to start com.docker.service. com.docker.service is required by Windows containers and Hyper-V backend.
As an IT administrator, you can use endpoint management (MDM) software to identify the number of Docker Desktop instances and their versions within your environment. This can provide accurate license reporting, help ensure your machines use the latest version of Docker Desktop, and enable you toenforce sign-in.
I am running Windows 10 Home 20H2 19042.985. I kept receiving a message that Dropbox needed to be updated. So, finally I tried it. It would download and run and close right away. I tried all sorts of things to try and get it installed. I was able to start the install when I booted in Safe mode with Networking turned on.
I tried both the installer that downloads the image, and the one that indicates it is a full install with no network connection required (which is false, it would not run unless I was connected to the internet.
I have the latest version of Chrome, which is my default browser. If you notice the above image it is Windows Explorer that opens up. I updated Edge to the latest version, FireFox, etc. Nothing works.
I have read a lot of updates in the community with people who have gotten the same errors. I have tried many of them with no success. Is there a really true offline installer that needs no internet connect? Then once I get it installed I could boot out of safe mode and make the connection to my Dropbox account?
I will now have to try and figure out what happened with my normal Administrator profile I log in with every day. That is outside the scope of Dropbox support, and I totally understand that. At least Dropbox helped me get their application installed and working by providing good recommendations.

I have recently been trying my installs in SAFE MODE, and I have tried both the regular and the offline installs, so no anti virus or firewalls are active. I have read through a lot of the threads in the community for this error, before even opening this. So far nothing has worked. I tried the one you pointed to and I am still getting the exact same error. I tried looking for the log files, The only place I found a Dropbox folder was in:
%LOCALAPPDATA%
I can send the log file to you if you think it would help, I just need to know what extension to put on it, so that it won't get corrupted.
I have tried so many different things and nothing has worked. I really would like to get Dropbox working again. Is it possible to try a version of the install (offline) that is a little older, that wouldn't insist on an upgrade?
Sorry, it has taken me a bit to reply. Sad to say it did not work. The error regarding the incompatible browser is gone, but I am still getting The installer encountered error 2. When I click on more help I now get the generic page on what to do if Dropbox does not install.
This article explains how to install the Az PowerShell module on Windows using an MSI installer. TheMSI installer is provided for environments where the PowerShell Gallery may be blocked by afirewall, or an offline installer is needed.
To see if your machine meets these requirements, check your Windows version and build number by opening a Run dialog (Win+R), then type winver and select OK or Enter. Alternatively, enter the ver command in Windows Command Prompt. You may be able to update to the latest Windows version in Windows Update.
If you have an issue where the MSI is not accessible, you can download the installer that corresponds with the installed version via the PowerToys release page and then run the following command. You'll need to change EXECUTABLE_INSTALLER_NAME to the actual file name.
PowerToys uses an auto-updater that checks for new versions when the app is running. If enabled, a toast notification will appear when an update is available. Updates can also be checked for manually from the PowerToys Settings.
I've written before about my nostalgia for the Windows XP- or Windows 7-era "clean install," when you could substantially improve any given pre-made PC merely by taking an official direct-from-Microsoft Windows install disk and blowing away the factory install, ridding yourself of 60-day antivirus trials, WildTangent games, outdated drivers, and whatever other software your PC maker threw on it to help subsidize its cost.
I frequently write about Windows, Edge, and other Microsoft-adjacent technologies as part of my day job, and I sign into my daily-use PCs with a Microsoft account, so my usage patterns may be atypical for many Ars Technica readers. But for anyone who uses Windows, Edge, or both, I thought it might be useful to detail what I'm doing to clean up a clean install of Windows, minimizing (if not totally eliminating) the number of annoying notifications, Microsoft services, and unasked-for apps that we have to deal with.
