A third political party within the current political structure will fail because playing their game "because we have to," is almost a passive position.
An "independent movement," outside the context of the present set of games, YES, has a fair chance of success, and that's why I'm part of this group, and others like it.
However, we don't have a real plan, not even a place to assemble internationally and examine the problem so as to establish some criteria for priorities, and so on...
In general, we are trying to educate and spread the word... However, education and spreading the word are also more effective if it is either preceded or followed by some level of action.
Why? Because before we can even educate, we have to have someone's attention, and in the right frame of mind. For example, the 99% and the Occupy movements didn't have a specific message, but they all dovetailed with raising awareness. The step where many people know something privately from their knowledge and observation, is somewhat powerful, but what the movement did, was to say to each other, "You know this, and I know this, and everybody knows that, and we all know that each other know it..." That's even more powerful, because you know you can count on others' reality to take some positive action.
The "transfer your money from the big 10" was and still is a viable project. I started (granting that by the 100 Monkey theory, other started the same thing elsewhere) that shortly after the 2008 catastrophe. Other seemed to have done the same... but as far as we know, the most effective one was the one that was scheduled for Nov 5... So action of some kind can be effective. I this care the banks retreated from their ATM charge scheme.
But it takes a long time to organize and launch any of various possible campaigns. Why wouldn't a boycott work? Because we're not launching one with specific goals, time table, and other elements which would guarantee that if nothing else, it would be a debilitating salvo to those who are running the oppressive system.
So when we say, "educate, inform, and bring about a change of mind sets, i.e.: change of consciousness " we should consider that such can't be done totally with words. It must be accompanied by well planned, and executed action.
Having said all that, we should be reminded that it all begins with some level of personal action. There's no longer room, nor is the excuse that, "I'm just one person" to remain inactive. At any moment in time each person has some conviction about something, which is powerful enough to impel the person into action of some kind. From this I would say, "Do what you know must be done, and what you know is right." We can no longer avail ourselves of thinking that to do this or that will be a waste of time. Everything one does, even if wrong is positive, because when you realize it's wrong, you can change course. Granted we are not all at the same level of awareness, and often we don't have enough information upon which to base our actions, so we may doubt ourselves. Don't let that deter you... if you are continuously examining your path, you can make adjustments along the way, and if necessary change course when you find a true-er truth. Somewhere along the line, we'll have a stronger meeting of the minds so as to coordinate our efforts better. (In my opinion that moments lies within the next few years: 2012-2016. After that, the job will be ever so much harder, and we might find ourselves regretting not to have done something.)
Take it away, Maestro!
