Time to make the RBE a practical reality.
Greetings Oregon Zeitgeist:

Haven't seen much activity lately on TZM in Oregon? That's changing. If you missed Z Day this year, you missed something remarkable. This is your invitation to plug back in.

We all know TZM's official stance on making a RBE a reality. They say it's difficult if not impossible without some kind of major systemic disturbance: economic or political collapse or some other catastrophe, right?

What if none of that is needed? What if an RBE can begin happening, right now?

Oregon is Weird...but not in the way you think.
As you know, Oregon is a unique place. We're a seat of innovation. Food carts, Naked Bike Rides, Nike...We're home to famous bands, famous authors, famous inventors. We're pioneers, often among the top ten states for livability, Oregon is noted for innovation in land use and urban planning, sustainability, bike advocacy, graphic design, technology innovation and more. Unique things have come from our state, and we're not just talking about athletic apparel and Callahan (R.I.P bro).

What if Oregon became known as the epicenter for the world's RBE?
A small Oregon team has been quietly working on exactly that. They aren't waiting for a system collapse or any other catastrophe. Now, they are inviting YOU to participate. This team is augmented by a larger (yet still small) team of people from across the United States which meets every two weeks on Skype. On Z Day, the founder of that team gave a presentation on their work. Today, they're moving forward on a practical, emerging test of an RBE prototype. And they're opening their work for you to get involved. They don't want your money. They do want to share their work and, if you're inspired, get you involved.

Why might you be interested in this?
While the movies, events and meetings we've been having in TZM are entertaining and inspiring, and while we members all agree TZM's RBE this is the right way to go, we really don't have much opportunity to get our hands dirty, work on practical, real-world tasks which, strung together through time will cause the TZM vision to become reality. The small Oregon group I referred to above is doing just that. And we're being invited to play as an ally to their work. I think you'll find it at least worth an evening to hear what's going on, right?

Your invite
We're putting on an orientation meeting for you to find out more. It will be in downtown Portland. The organization (called Copiosis) operates in an optimism-based, transparent, stygmergic, non hierarchical way. They invite your participation based on your passion, skills and interests. Or, if you prefer, you can simply participate by observing and cheering on the work. Trust me, what they're up to is huge. Seems impossible even, but they're doing it, step by step.

What you're going to get by finding out more:
Excitement, inspiration, renewed confidence that an RBE is possible. And an opportunity to play a role in making it happen. No shit.

Yes David, we have something that will be exciting for the group. Looking forward to the orientation meeting. If there is anyone who thinks a day other than Tuesday evening would work better for the group as a whole, please let us know. Thanks!

Hi Perry,

Can I throw out July 1, 2014 as a date or every other Tuesday after that as I get my kids every other week and I would like to be there without them; as they are not into these ideas yet! ;-)

Yes, that will work! I guess we will see if others are okay with that date as well! :-)

Bummer, just checked the calendar for the space. That date is taken. We'll look at the 1st or the 29th of July. Prefer sooner than later.

I should be available any Tuesday, barring any major changes between now and then.

So has a date been set, i.e. is it the 1st or 29th or are you looking for more input to pick among those two dates?

Talked with Jesse this afternoon. We're going to have a smaller meeting on July 1 to talk about planning a larger meeting we'll host  July 28 anticipating low availability for July 1, but not wanting to wait so long as July 28.

Hope that makes sense.

Hi Perry,

That would make total sense, I was kind of thinking that the 1st was a bit too soon, i.e. not enough time to promote it, and too close to the 4th as well! ;)

Then to clarify things, we are planning for the 29th (i.e. not the 28th) of July to have the larger meeting right?

Hey Manny,
Yes, I just noticed that slip. We're planning for July 29. Not the 28th.
