Apart from counting words and characters, our online editor can help you to improve word choice and writing style, and, optionally, help you to detect grammar mistakes and plagiarism. To check word count, simply place your cursor into the text box above and start typing. You'll see the number of characters and words increase or decrease as you type, delete, and edit them. You can also copy and paste text from another program over into the online editor above. The Auto-Save feature will make sure you won't lose any changes while editing, even if you leave the site and come back later. Tip: Bookmark this page now.

Knowing the word count of a text can be important. For example, if an author has to write a minimum or maximum amount of words for an article, essay, report, story, book, paper, you name it. WordCounter will help to make sure its word count reaches a specific requirement or stays within a certain limit.

In addition, WordCounter shows you the top 10 keywords and keyword density of the article you're writing. This allows you to know which keywords you use how often and at what percentages. This can prevent you from over-using certain words or word combinations and check for best distribution of keywords in your writing.

The Word Counter is a dynamic online tool used for counting words, characters, sentences, paragraphs and pages in real time, along with spelling and grammar checking. Writers leverage it to improve word choice and writing style as well as helping to detect grammar mistakes and plagiarism. Additionally, to assist with public speaking, our tool will accurately estimate speaking time to help with prep for class presentations, wedding speeches, or anything of the sort.

Use The Word Counter by typing directly into the text area above or pasting in your content. Word and character counts will display at the top, any writing mistakes will be underlined and your most frequently used keywords will appear to the right.

If you prefer using the classic Microsoft Word to write, then no worries. Microsoft Word is also equipped with its own word counter. You will usually find the word count on the status bar, right beside the page counter. If it happens to not be there, just right-click on the status bar and select Word Count. If you want a more detailed report of your word count that includes characters, paragraphs, and even lines, just head out to the Menu Bar. Click on Tools and then Word count, and voila! There you go. Pretty simple, right?

A: The Flesch reading ease measures the complexity of a text. The lower your score, the more complex your text is. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate your score.

+1! Some of my essays for school require a min/max word count. As someone that writes these essays in daily notes, of which likely have other text written in them, being able to see word count for selected text would be much helpful.

but when I select a bunch of text in a document, it would be great if that word counters could then update and show me how many are in that selected piece of text (perhaps in brackets, next to the total word count for the document)

AER: Insights Authors: Your word count PDF should include only the main body of your manuscript (including any equations) plus footnotes and endnotes. This PDF should exclude the title, author names, abstract, acknowledgement footnote, reference list, and exhibits. Otherwise, it should be identical to the submitted manuscript.

Was this lost in the move from Ace(?) to Codemirror(?) - on desktop at least. I can find reference to word counts including old PRs etc. but nothing in the application itself. Either that or I just can't find it...

Maybe pointless to add another vote given the age of this thread, but as stated, word count on iOS is crucial for writers.
I expected to find both word and character count under the Properties menu, but it would be even better as a configurable option to be displayed at the top of the editor: word count, character count, or none.
The count should reflect any text selection and there should be a count per notebook.

First of all i think that Joplin needs a redesign as soon as possible and when the right time arrives will gladly help @laurent . One of the features that I think could be improved is the word and character count. Here are some suggestions on how to make it more intuitive and useful:

Now, my program must pass 13 tests, all of which are diffrent strings with spaces, characters, digits, etc.I used to have a problem because I would replace all non-letters and non-digits by a space. This created problem's for words like "don't", because it would divided it into two strings, don and t. To counter this I added an if statement excluding single ' marks from being replaced, which worked.

However, one of the strings I must test is "Joe can't tell between 'large' and large.". The problem is that since I exclude ' markets, here large and 'large' are considered as two different things, also they are the same word. How do I tell my program to "erase" quotes surrounding a word?

I've been going to this link" -character-counter-workflow and downloading the file and, I just don't know what to do with it? There is no .alfredworkflow file in there and when I compress and rename it, it only half works, but it won't count the characters.

What's the most current way to find the word count of a note? I tried searching for the answer and the most current topics I can find are from 2018 or older and the menu options they say to use no longer seem to be there. For example:

I don't see any "word and resource counts" in the menu when I right-click in the text. I don't see a "word and resource counts" under any menu I can find on the screen, and I don't see "view" or "show status bar" anywhere either. Have things changed and this is no longer relevant, or am I just like the Technologically Impaired Duck and missing an obvious button somewhere?

I'm using the Windows version and both the "Status bar" option and the "Word and resource counts" are missing. Finally I found the word count in the "Show note information" (not sure about the English translation) menu option, but I hardly noticed it there.

I'm getting pissed with these "improvements". First remove the sync button and now remove the word count. Maybe Evernote should ask users which features they like, before removing them.

Try using online services for word and character counts. I work as a journalist and editor. Most of my work consists of writing articles and editing other people's. One of the main conditions and rules of working as an editor is to keep track of the article's volume and adjust (increase or decrease) the volume of the written text. I used to use automatic word count in Word. The information provided by this service is relatively narrow. I need to know the number of words and characters and the number of sentences, paragraphs, and pages. I use for these purposes. Sometimes I need to check the number of words in a particular line. This service copes with any task.

ChatGPT cannot accurately count words and is not suitable for producing word-counted material. This is due to the fact that ChatGPT is based on language prediction and not a calculator. The best way to get ChatGPT to generate code is to prompt it to write short, small methods in a module fashion. Furthermore, ChatGPT can count space characters rather than words when asked to calculate a word count, but the results are often inaccurate.

ChatGPT is not suitable for producing word-counted material due to the fact that it is based on language prediction and not a calculator. Word counting can often be inaccurate, which makes it difficult to use ChatGPT for this purpose. However, it is possible to get ChatGPT to count space characters instead of words when asked to calculate a word count, although the results are often inaccurate.

To get the best results from ChatGPT when generating code, it is recommended to prompt it to write short, small methods in a module fashion. This is because ChatGPT performs best when generating short sequences of words.

You can copy and paste your text with the characters to count in the text area above, or you can type your characters and words into the text area. The counter will be updated instantly, displaying the amount of characters, words, sentences, paragraphs and whitespace in your text, not to mention that the keyword density (which you can configure from the options menu) is also displayed.

With the keyword density calculator (also known as word frequency) you can see how many times a certain word appears in your text. Most writers prefer to exclude common words (also known as stopwords) when counting their keyword density.

We've made things easy for you by collecting stopwords from different languages which you can easily select in the drop-down menu above. If a word is missing or wrong then you can add/delete it as well (keep in mind that these changes are not saved).
