Beginner errors

I am trying to use and edit python code. However when I create a new file even the most basic code ( print "Hello world") returns the error message "failed to save" on the right side of the screen. I don't understand why it cannot save even one line of code. Note, the name of the file I created is pythontest.py. Any suggestions?
