What are the system requirements for the standalone version of zed on linux?  In particular, does it require X11 or some other GUI system?  Or does it require a previously installed version of Node.js?

And can it be installed or built by and for a single user without sudo privileges?

When I download the standalone linux version from the Download page at zedapp.org, unpack it, and try to run ./zed, it simply exits with no message and without doing anything apparent.

PS.  Building on linux is going to be a bit complicated, because not only don't I have sudo, the linux systems are behind a firewall and can't access the internet.  Still trying to figure out (a) whether I can cross-compile the linux version on Mac OS X, or (b) what I need to manually download and rsync to linux so I can build it there, but those deserve a separate thread once I've gotten stuck and know what questions to ask.

It’s a GUI application, so it requires X. You don’t have to have node.js installed, that should all be bundled in the binary.
