It used to be that piano-accompanied vocal recitals were predictably arranged around five or six groupings of songs, and the audience would hold its applause until after each group. Davidsen joked knowingly about those expectations when she picked up her wireless microphone in the middle of her first set of songs by Edvard Grieg. She informed us that she relished performing the first three in her native Norwegian, but the three that followed her remarks would be in German. This opportunity to bring music by Scandinavian composers to the Met clearly moved her and though the Grieg found her a bit unsettled, four expansive songs by Sibelius suited her wonderfully.

"Take a little walk to the edge of town..." the low tones of Nick Cave's voice have become synonymous with BBC's Birmingham-based gangster drama, Peaky Blinders. Cave's music features prominently in the drama: on top of his track Red Right Hand, the show's theme, at least 14 of his songs have featured across the series. And that doesn't take into account the several remixes and covers of Red Right Hand peppered throughout...
The series is packed with expertly curated musical moments, with songs from the likes of The White Stripes, Arctic Monkeys, Johnny Cash, Radiohead and PJ Harvey popping up here and there. With such great music, it's not too surprising that they've decided to launch a Peaky Blinders music festival co-curated by show creator Steven Knight where fans will be able to revel in the music and meet some of the cast and creators.

The music of Star Trek: Picard season 3 will honor what came before by referencing and paying homage to the scores from several past Star Trek movies. Music continually plays a large part in Star Trek's appeal, beginning with Alexander Courage's immortal theme from Star Trek: The Original Series, which almost every Star Trek series and movie has featured, at least in part. From Star Trek: Voyager's epic, soaring theme to the understated beauty of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's intro music, music has always set the mood for what was to come in the final frontier.
That said, the biggest, most majestic Star Trek music has always come in the movies. While the film itself is highly divisive, Jerry Goldsmith's score for Star Trek: The Motion Picture is generally considered not only a franchise peak but one of the best scores in popular film history. Goldsmith's main theme from The Motion Picture was even slightly reworked to serve as the theme song to Star Trek: The Next Generation. Composers like James Horner, Cliff Eidelman, and Michael Giacchino have all contributed tremendous scores to the film franchise as well. While those massive, epic scores have largely been absent on the small screen, that's set to change with Star Trek: Picard season 3.
