Sam L. Susser Inducted into

McCombs School of Business Hall of Fame

This November the seventh ZBT Alum will be inducted into the McCombs School of Business Hall of Fame. This magnificent honor is another example of the extraordinary alumni database this chapter has.

The first six recipients in chronological order are: Sam Barshop, Edwin Gale, Ronald Steinhart, Gary Kusin, Alan Dreeben, and Sanford “Sandy” Gottesman. Most recently, the accolade has been awarded to Sam Susser. He is also the recipient of several other honors such as admittance into the (State of) Texas Business Hall of Fame.

Sam L. Susser is the President of Susser Holdings II, L.P.  From 1988 to 2014, Mr. Susser led the growth of Susser Holdings Corporation from a five-store operation to a $6.7 billion enterprise that was a member of the Fortune 500 and employed 12,000 team members. The Company went public in 2006 and was traded on the NYSE as “SUSS” and its wholesale fuel division, Susser Petroleum Partners went public in 2012 and was traded as “SUSP”. After producing 26 consecutive years of same-store merchandise growth, the business was sold to ETP on August 29, 2014, and Mr. Susser continued to serve as Chairman of the Board of SUSP (now renamed Sunoco LP “SUN”) until May 2015.

Mr. Susser resides today in Corpus Christi where he also spent his childhood. In addition to being an active member of ZBT at UT, he was a member of the varsity golf team for three years. He graduated with a BBA in Finance during May of 1985. Sam and his wife, Catherine, have three children who have become sixth generation Corpus Christi Jews.

Their only daughter, Sophie, is a fourth-generation Longhorn and sophomore at UT. Sammy, their oldest son, is a senior in high school and current ZBT rushee. The Susser’s youngest child, Eli, is known for his passion for Boy Scouts.

Please join us in congratulating Mr. Sam L. Susser on this remarkable honor.
