Subject: Freshman Move-In Day August 24
Greetings to Muhlenberg Move-In Day Volunteers!
Thank you for volunteering to help welcome the Class of 2016 on Move-In Day, August 24, 2012! The morning will be a busy one, filled with emotions and anticipation. Your presence will send a message to our new students (and their families), that they are embarking upon a wonderful and meaningful experience here at 'Berg!
Move-In Day is a very organized and efficient process at Muhlenberg. When students arrive, based upon their residence hall, they are assigned to one of three holding lines that form on the side streets. When they pull up to their respective hall, they are greeted by individuals who quickly unpack their cars and move their belongings to their rooms so they can begin to settle in.
There are three duties that we have been given for the morning.
Beverage Carts
Greet families and offer refreshments for people waiting in the holding lines. Several people will be assigned to each cart. Shifts will run from 7:00 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Welcome Students and Families
Please keep in mind that some students and parents may be feeling some anxiety, we want them to feel welcome - but don't want to overwhelm them.
First Year Gifts
We will hand out a flash drive to each First Year Student. This is a gift given from the Alumni Association welcoming the Class of 2016 to Muhlenberg College.
Volunteer Assignments are as follows; please let me know as soon as possible if you cannot be here for your scheduled time. I can be reached by phone at 484-664-3303 or email at dkli...@muhlenberg.edu. Please note that if you registered for a double shift, I may have only scheduled you for one shift since we have a great number of volunteers this year. However, if you like, please feel free to stay at your assignment to assist in the transition of volunteers from first to second shift and/or just to talk to the parents and students.

When you arrive on Friday morning, please report to the main lobby of the Union. As you can imagine, parking on Move-In Day will be at a premium. Since you will be arriving early, you may be able to find parking on Chew Street, if not, there may be space in the commuter lot next to the library or at Hoffman House. Indicate to the security guard that you are an alumni volunteer. If possible, please plan to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled time so that we can get you to your "post" promptly at your scheduled start time. Be sure to dress for outdoor weather and wear comfortable shoes.
By 11:30 a.m. all students should be moved into their dorms, and we can enjoy some time together. A lunch buffet will begin in Seegers 108-109 at 11:30 a.m.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you again for volunteering to help! I look forward to seeing you Friday.
