Import/Export what do they do exactly and what is the difference between them?

export <source storage path> <destination storage path> -
performs export from source to destination storage;
import <source storage path> <destination storage path> -
performs import from source to destination storage;

Hi,
this is all the info in the in-line help and I can't find anything more on the main website. Can someone help me clarify these two options?

I also find this confusing. I had to look at the source code, where it appears that they are the same, except the source and destination are swapped in the case of "import", which should probably list the paths as destination then source... I don't see why we need two options for the same thing, and if we have them, I suggest the naming of the arguments should be swapped for import.
