This should (in theory) purge the entire netflix-desktop package and, since it sounds like you removed the ppa as well, add it back and reinstall the package. Omit sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ehoover/compholio && sudo apt-get update && if you did not remove the ppa.
I had the same error.I removed netflix-desktop and purged the ppa. However, I also had to remove the following two files from /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ehoover-compholio-precise.list and/etc/apt/sources.list.d/ehoover-compholio-precise.list.save.
I bought the t620 Flexible Thin Client (2015) on eBay a couple of days ago, mainly to watch Netflix on the big TV in our family room. I had been using an Android TV Box, but as Netflix and Android had a "parting" the netflix app regularly plays up.
However after updating all of the HP website updates (including a graphics update) for this model, it still is very jerky when streaming from Netflix. The normal screen on my PC is magnificent, even You Tube plays OK, but....
The Thin Clients are simply not meant to use for streaming video. The t620 comes with either a AMD GX-217GA Dual-Core APU with AMD Radeon HD 8280E graphics (1.65 GHz) or a AMD GX-415GA Quad-Core APU with AMD Radeon HD 8330E (1.5 GHz) processor. Neither of these is powerful enough to stream video effectively. Also, it only comes with minimal graphics capability. The 4 GB, upgradeable to 16 GB, of memory would be good if the other components were as capable. The Thin Clients work great in an office setting, however.
Netflix Desktop provides a convenient tool that downloads and installs all of the components necessary to run Netflix Watch Instantly under Wine, including the Windows version of Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Silverlight v4. This package also includes some convience settings to integrate Netflix into Firefox in such a way that everything feels like a native Ubuntu application.
Currently, Wine does not include all of the necessary patches to use Netflix "out of the box", so the PPA below also contains a custom build of Wine with the patches included (see the Wine 'Compholio Edition'). It is important to note that this build is installed side-by-side with "vanilla" Wine, so installing the package will keep any existing Wine installation. This was not the case a long time ago (when netflix-desktop first became available), but this is no longer a concern.
It's also important to note that netflix-desktop is integrated with the pipelight project. This means that installing pipelight will cause netflix-desktop to use your native version of Firefox instead of running Firefox under Wine, which generally provides better performance. Pipelight also allows you to use Netflix in your normal browser, though it requires some additional configuration to make Netflix happy.Neither this package or its author is affliated with, endorsed, provided, or supported in any way by Netflix, Inc.
Once you've done that then all you need to do is install netflix-desktop. More detailed installation instructions (including adding "Pipelight" plugin support) is available at the Pipelight project website.
On some systems it's necessary to add a special mounting flag to gain extended attribute support, to do that you'll want to edit your fstab to add support for the extended filesystem attributes. To do that you want to edit the fstab file as root:
After you've done that just remount your main filesystem:sudo mount -o remount /

I have been running the desktop app and using screen mirroring for a few days now and everything has worked Flawless absolutely love the feature and I had seen in videos The developers state that it does not work for video streaming services such as Disney/Netflix in knowing that I still did give it a go lol and the lights did stop working when the movie actually started playing but I was able to watch the whole movie today just within the last 20 minutes I didn't realise that I had the NL program running at the time after watching something for like 20 seconds and it's only been tonight but my computer hard crashes and give me a blue screen just wondering if this is a common issue due to the lack of support with subscription services? It's definitely having the program active that is causing the issue I have troubleshooted TBH just seems very weird that it crashes my computer I get that they don't work but the fact that it hard crashes my computer is very weird anyone else having this issue? Computer runs completely fine when NL program is not enabled
This has also been happening to me since the last desktop app update. When I screen mirror, after a short while my PC video will freeze. I can still hear audio in the background, and then hear the windows tones that indicate that it has lost communication to a device (my video card). I've been going through a ton of troubleshooting trying to determine a common factor, and have finally determined it is the Nanoleaf Desktop app in screen-mirror mode. I always use it while gaming to extend the ambience to the room.
This began happening to me on October 31st. I'd been out of town for two weeks, and came back to the Nanoleaf app requiring an update. I allowed it to do so, but the update sort of just sat there not updating, and eventually I had to just kill the process. This left the nanoleaf desktop app in a broken state, so I removed it entirely, and installed fresh from the download site version 1.1.2. That is when the crashing began.
Netflix is a major streaming service that allows users to watch TV shows, movies, animations and more. It has so much entertainment that you can never say, there is nothing to watch. In order to use Netflix, the new user could start with a one month free trial (which they can cancel anytime) or subscribe by paying monthly. The app itself is free, which is available in mobile, tablet and desktop versions.
Same problem here. Since the last few days there is a 1px white line on the top of netflix fullscreen videos. Can't reproduce it on other websites. Did a full reset of firefox, no change.
Sometimes I'm able to make it a darker blue-grey shade which is way more tolerable than the white bar and I wonder if that was why, as I've had trouble recreating it. Will give that a go though, thanks.
I'm trying to install the netflix-desktop package in Debian 'jessie'. I was able to get this to work on my laptop running Debian 'wheezy' a few months ago, but on my desktop I keep running into these errors when I run:
I already added the i386 architecture and tried running apt-get install -f and aptitude install -f to try and fix any broken packages. It's worth noting that it's not just the 'netflix-desktop' package that does this: other packages (which are also 'netflix-desktop' dependencies) like 'ia32-libs' give similar messages about broken dependencies.
During these times of quarantine, you may find yourself wanting to share your Netflix binge-watching experience with your friends or loved ones. While it's easy to do so on a smartphone, watching Netflix together on a desktop can be a bit more challenging. The popular Netflix Party chrome extension is currently facing issues due to a high volume of users, resulting in poor ratings and reviews on the Chrome store. But don't worry, there are other ways to watch Netflix together on your desktop without relying on this Netflix extension.
StreamParty is a chrome extension that works similarly to Netflix Party. You can download and use it on any operating system as long as you have the Google Chrome browser or any other chromium-based browser installed. To get started, download and install the StreamParty chrome extension from this link.
StreamParty also provides a chat window on the right side, which is quite handy. There is no limit to the number of people who can watch together, but each person needs to have their own Netflix account. However, if someone accessing the link doesn't have the StreamParty extension installed, there will be no notification. It will simply play the Netflix video normally without redirecting or informing the user to install the extension. Therefore, it's important to ensure that everyone has the StreamParty extension installed and logged in.
If you only have a single Netflix account but still want to watch Netflix together with your loved ones, you can use Kast. Kast is a rebranded version of the popular movie streaming app Rabb.it, but it offers the ability to share your entire desktop. Think of it as a desktop sharing app, similar to TeamViewer. To use Kast, you can either install the desktop app or use the web version.
Scener is another Chrome extension that allows you to share your Netflix videos. Like StreamParty, all users need to have their own separate Netflix accounts. The highlight feature of Scener is video chat while Netflixing. Sharing is simple. One person can create a virtual theater and share the code with others to join the stream. Only the owner of the theater can play/pause the stream, but there is an option to pass on the remote control to someone else in the stream.
These services are relatively new, and the number of users is still growing. As they gain popularity, you may encounter some issues, but we will update this article with other lesser-known alternatives as time goes on. If you have any other issues or queries, let us know in the comments below.
