Hi all,

I've only dabbled in ZAP but wanting to get into it more, so I've upgraded the version I was on to 2.12.  Now when I try and open ZAP, I get an error message saying "This application requires a Java Runtime Environment 11.0.0".  When I click OK I am taken to https://www.java.com/en/download/ for 64 Bit Java for Windows V8 Update 371.  I have successfully installed this and restarted my laptop but still getting the error message.
Any ideas would be appreciated!

OS Version: Windows 10 Pro

Hi.

See https://github.com/zaproxy/zaproxy/issues/5368 for workarounds.
Using the bat is probably the more straightforward one.

This should be fixed in the next main release.

Best regards.

Hmmm.  I've repointed my shortcut to the .bat and I see the cmd window open but then nothing happens.  It's 4:30 on a Friday after a brutal week so maybe I'm missing something - but right now I'm going to log off and worry about this later...

Appreciate your time :)

Hi all

OK - confirmed my shortcut is redirected to the BAT, rebooted my laptop twice, confirmed JRE is installed, and still no luck.  ZAP was previously working fine (I can't remember what version, either 2.10 or 2.11) so not sure what's changed.

I've also tried running just the BAT (both as regular user and admin) and same thing - the cmd window shows up and disappears but then nothing.

Any ideas?

Change the cmd to just run "java -version" and see what it reports?

Ran java -version from cmd and here's what I get

C:\WINDOWS\system32>java -version
java version "1.8.0_371"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_371-b11)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.371-b11, mixed mode)

C:\WINDOWS\system32>

OK how do I do that?  (Apologies, I'm not used to messing around with a application's settings like this)

Well, thats your problem.
Windows is still picking up Java 8.

This looks like its a Windows config problem rather than a ZAP one.
Hopefully google will be able to help with that, but other people here might be able to as well.
I dont have a Windows box to hand ..

Cheers,

Simon

OK so now I'm really confused LOL

Going to https://www.java.com/en/download/ - it says Version 8 was updated April 18 2023.  When I google "jre 11 windows install" I keep coming back to this page.  I'll keep looking but if anyone has the link handy I would appreciate it :)

Try in https://adoptium.net/en-GB/temurin/releases/?version=11

(Note when installing choose to include the registry option, like
mentioned in the earlier issue.)

I'd suggest uninstalling Java 8 if you don't need it specifically.

Best regards.
