I am using ZAP 2.12.0 and there is no update pending. My Chrome browser is also updated. But when in Manual Explore, I put an URL, select Chrome as browser and Launch Browser, a window momentarily appears but then disappears with a popup message saying that "The provided browser was not found".

If I select Firefox, then straightaway the error popup appears.

Any help on this would be really appreciated.

Permissions issue? What happens when you run zap as root? (not suggesting you do that all the time, just trying to move troubleshooting.)

Opened ZAP as Administrator on Windows. But the same error shows up.

The Selenium Options screen allows you to tell ZAP where to find both Chrome and Firefox.
Try setting these and see if they can then be launched.
If that fails then have a look in the zap.log file for any related errors:

Finally got it working... my Chrome browser version is 107.0.5304.88. However Chromedriver in ZAP 2.12.0 is compatible for 103. Hence downloaded Chromedriver for 107 and put it in webdriver\windows\32\. Thanks for help.

In my case, after following all the instructions from FAQ page
nothing worked.

But Windows restart did. Maybe it would be worth adding this hint to the page.

Hi 

I had this same problem on my Mac today. 

After 60 mins of trial and error , head scratching and asking a colleague, it turned out it was the local version of my Chrome browser.

I wanted to put a commit to the FAQ to suggest users " Make sure their local Chrome is up-to-date as Zap ties to that one" . Is that factually correct and appropriate to include?

The zap.log file should give an error message giving more details and if theres a mismarch.
Unfortunately these messages are not easy to parse and present to the user in a useful way :/
But yes, please submit a PR to update that page - the browsers and webdrivers do need to be compatible.

I started getting this issue on ZAP update to latest version - 14.
Resolved for Chrome by updating the Chrome version.
