Slow active Scan

I'm new ZAP user. I use to use Zap in protected mode. But whenever I start active scanning one of my website in localhost, it always takes hours to finish scan even the website is a simple one with few pages. I'm tired of waiting to finish the scan. What problems may be in my ZAP? Please help me.

Thanks thc202! The link helped me. In the Active Scan option, I changed the 'Max results to list' value from some thousands to 500. Now it seems OK.
