Looking For Advice as a New Contributor

Hi, a classmate and I want to contribute to Zaproxy for our undergraduate senior capstone project. We will be contributing to Zaproxy for the next year so we are looking for a better understanding of the fundamentals of this project. We both have experience in Java but are new to cybersecurity. We have built in a month for various small projects to gain a better foundation before contributing. We have seen from the GitHub that Zaproxy utilizes a lot of its own libraries and were thinking this would be a good place to start. We were also thinking about learning the foundations of web application security and penetration testing techniques during this month. Do you have any resources or demo projects for preparing to contribute to Zaproxy? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! -Ben and Ryan
