The move to Source Forge for downloads has had the unexpected side effect of dramatically reducing the number of downloads of the 'weekly' releases.
I think this is probably because SF prompts you with the latest / 'most appropriate' download for your platform, which will to 2.2.2
I've also had complaints from people about the size of the ZAP downloads.
And finally, some comments that its getting too complicated for new users.
My suggestion for addressing these 3 problems, is that from 2.3 we should have a Downloads page that links directly to the relevant files.
And I was thinking of something like:
ZAP Downloads
ZAP Lite - cross platform 47 Mb
Download now This contains the minimal set of functionality to get you started and is ideal for people new to ZAP.
You can add more functionality at any time via the ZAP Marketplace.
It is cross platform (Windows, Linux and Mac OS but does not include any installers.
It requires Java 7 to run
ZAP Standard
Windows 56 Mb Download now
Linux / cross platform 62 Mb Download now
Mac OS 115 Mb Download now
This contains the standard set of functionality, and you can add more functionality at any time via the ZAP Marketplace.
The Windows and Linux versions require Java 7 to run.
The Mac OS version includes Java 7 - you can use the 'Linux / cross platform' version if you do not want to download this.
ZAP Weekly - cross platform 75 Mb
Download now We generate weekly releases of ZAP from the trunk, typically every Monday.
These are just intended for people who want to use all of the
features we've added since the last 'full' release but dont want the
hassle of building ZAP from the source code.
While we endeavor to ensure that weekly releases are robust, things may be broken or only partially implemented.
It is cross platform (Windows, Linux and Mac OS but does not include any installers.
It requires Java 7 to run
ZAP Workspace - cross platform 945 Mb Download now
An Eclipse workspace containing all of the ZAP projects including source code
The 'Lite' version would just contain the following add-ons:
- ascanrules-release
- pscanrules-release
- diff-beta
- plugnhack
- quickstart-release
It would look something like the attached screenshot.
What do you think?
