PART-TIME TEMPORARY LECTURESHIP for Honours semester module
Department of Philosophy, University of Pretoria
 
The UP Philosophy Department is seeking a part-time, assistant/temporary lecturer to instruct the following courses during the first semester in 2022:
 
Description of modules

 FIL 710 History of Philosophy (1st semester)
A study of selected texts and/or themes from the history of philosophy.

 FIL 712 Contemporary Philosophy (2nd semester)
Critical investigation of the work of key authors or themes in recent philosophy, with some likely emphasis on metaphysics, epistemology, the philosophy of science, philosophy of mind, or a related field.

Details
• There is one 3-hour seminar per week to around 15 students.
• Teaching is in-person face-to-face.
• The lecturer is responsible for the setting and marking of all assessments.
• The course content is set, although negotiation on the module topics will be possible.

Minimum Requirements:
• A Masters Degree in Philosophy;
• Teaching experience and teaching evaluations;
• Experience with Blackboard online platform;
• Availability to teach on UP’s Hatfield campus;
• SA citizenship or a valid work permit for the period in question at the time of application.

Strong Recommendation:
• A PhD in Philosophy
• Teaching experience at honours level.

3. A brief outline of a course you would suggest to teach given the description of the module above;
4. A cover letter motivating your suitability;
5. Proof of SA citizenship or valid work permit.
