Call for Abstracts for the Philosophical Society of Southern Africa Conference

26-28 January 2027

University of Namibia, Windhoek (Namibia)

Deadline for submission of abstracts: 16 October 2027.

This is the first call for papers for the annual conference of the Philosophical Society of Southern Africa. The conference, representing the entirety of the Southern African region, will be organized and hosted by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Namibia, Windhoek, Namibia.

The conference dates are 26-28 January 2027.

The conference has no overall theme, and papers in all areas of philosophy are welcome. Abstracts of around 300 words should reach the conference organisers by 16 October 2027. Please submit to:

pssa2027c...@gmail.com with the subject-line ‘PSSA Submission’.

Honours and postgraduate students are encouraged to submit.

Confirmation of papers accepted for the conference will take place by 31 October 2027. If you require this information at an earlier date (e.g.in order to obtain funding), please indicate this with your submission.

As in past years, participants of the conference will be able to send their presentations for possible inclusion in a special 2027 conference edition of the South African Journal of Philosophy. Please note that submissions must be submitted to the journal site.

We hope to be able to arrange on-campus accommodation for students during the conference; details will be sent out at a future date. Off-campus accommodation for academics close to the conference venue will also be available.

Please bear in mind that the distance between Windhoek and the airport is quite far (about 45 km), but we will send along details regarding transport to and from the airport soon.

Also note that there will be a registration fee for the conference, to cover tea/coffee and lunches.

Please distribute widely.

Yours,

Dr. Masoud Nassor
