Dear friends,

Prof Louise Cilliers, distinguished scholar of Classics and long-standing member of the Classical Association of South Africa (CASA), passed away on 9 March 2026. She made an enduring contribution to the study of the ancient world, particularly in the fields of Classical literature and the history of medicine in antiquity. Through her scholarship, lecturing, and service to the discipline, she was a mentor to both students and colleagues. She will be remembered with gratitude and respect by the Classics community in South Africa, the Department of Philosophy and Classics at the University of the Free State, and beyond.

A more extensive obituary will be published in the upcoming edition of Acta Classica.

With warm regards,
Helen-Mary Cawood
