Dear ZAPhil community.

We are pleased to announce a new (online) South African Simone de Beauvoir Reading Group!
Our aim is to read and approach Beauvoir's fiction, in light of Beauvoir's express claim that it is through her fiction that she developed her own distinctive brand of philosophical insights rather than simply through texts such as Pyrrhus and CineasThe Ethics of Ambiguity, or The Second Sex alone. We encourage anyone who is interested to attend - a background in Beauvoir is not necessary.

We shall begin with Beauvoir's debut novel, She Came to Stay, and meet on the last Tuesday of each month from 16:00 - 17:00 (GMT+2), on Google Meet.
In each meeting, we will discuss two chapters, starting with the first two chapters of She Came to Stay
Our first meeting will be on 31st of March 2026

If you are interested in attending, please fill in this form to be added to our mailing list and so receive meeting links and reminders: https://forms.gle/KKqSa7Jffoa6TNHs6

The reading group will be chaired by Greg Mackenzie (UCT - The.gma...@gmail.com) and Kayleigh Timmer (Stellenbosch - kayleig...@gmail.com). Please feel free to contact either of us if you have any queries.

Hope to see you there!

Greg Mackenzie & Kayleigh Timmer
