The Organising Committee of the South African Conference for Artificial Intelligence Research, SACAIR invites the submission of full papers for presentation at the conference, to be held at the Wallenberg Conference Centre of the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS) in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa. The conference theme is ‘Artificial Intelligence for Social Justice’.

Conference Tracks and Scope
Due to its multi-disciplinary nature the conference will be organised around discipline specific tracks. We solicit original research submissions in the following four tracks 1. Algorithmic, Symbolic and Data-Driven AI (Computer Science) 2. Socio-technical AI (Information Systems) 3. Responsible and Ethical AI (Philosophy and Law) 4. Inter- and transdisciplinary Research
Please note that the SACAIR 2022 tracks represent different academic disciplines, so please select the track for your submission carefully.
SACAIR 2022 – Algorithmic, Symbolic and Data-Driven AI (Computer Science) track – Submissions will primarily be reviewed by a computer science (CS) program committee, so the contribution should be a CS contribution developed according to accepted CS research strategies, whether it is algorithmic, symbolic or data-driven. Topics in this track include: · Knowledge Representation and Reasoning · Ontologies · Machine Learning · Quantum Artificial Intelligence · Deep Learning · Computer Vision and Image Processing
SACAIR 2022 – Socio-technical and human-centred AI (Information Systems) track – Submission will primarily be reviewed by an information systems (IS) program committee, so the contribution should be an IS contribution developed according to accepted IS research strategies, which are primarily socio-technical contributions. Please do not submit to this track if you do not have an IS contribution. Application papers such as testing an algorithm within a new software system belong to the CS track. Topics in this track include: · AI Information Systems · AI and Socio-Technical Systems · Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence · AI for and in Business including AI adoption · AI Supporting Sustainable Development and the Circular Economy · AI for Development and Social Good · Society 5.0
SACAIR 2022 – Responsible and Ethical AI (Philosophy and Law) track – Submissions will be reviewed by a program committee from the humanities, so the contribution should be an accepted contribution according to the humanities. Topics in this track include: · Data Ethics · Machine Ethics · Ethics of Socio-robotics · Neuro Ethics · AI and the Law · AI Ethics Policy-making

SACAIR 2022 – Inter- and transdisciplinary AI research track – Submissions should truly be inter- and transdisciplinary adopting research strategies from different disciplines. The criteria for submissions to this track would include a motivation for why the submission is inter- and transdisciplinary, so please ensure that such a motivation is included in your submission.
Paper Submission
Full papers will undergo double-blind peer-review, complying with the requirements of the South African DHET research output policy. Abstracts and full papers must be submitted in EasyChair. https://easychair.org/my/conference?conf=sacair2022

Please ensure your paper adheres to the required Springer format, and submit the pdf version for review.
Proceedings with all accepted papers for SACAIR will be made available online on the SACAIR website, and a selection of accepted papers will appear in a volume of Springer series – (Communications in Computer and Information Science – CCIS), which is accredited by the South African DHET. All papers should report original research that has neither been published nor submitted for publication elsewhere.
To comply with Springer publication guidelines manuscripts may be submitted through a plagiarism-checking tool, following both submissions for review and the arrival of the files at Springer. Please see the Springer website for more information.
Detailed submission information and guidelines will be posted on the conference website. All manuscripts must be formatted using Springer style files and templates available here. Only submissions made in these formats will be considered for review. The style files and templates will be available through the conference website. Submissions must be between 12 to 15 pages (with 15 pages an absolute maximum). Authors will be required to submit a signed Consent to Publish form, through which the copyright of their paper is transferred to Springer. A link to the form and instructions will be provided on the conference website.
An option for open access, at an additional cost, will be available to authors.
