Job vacancies: Adjunct Lecturers in Philosophy

Dear colleagues,

The University of South Africa is advancing its Comprehensive Open Distance e-Learning (CODeL) tuition model by the appointment of Adjunct Lecturers on three year, fixed term contracts (cf. https://www.unisa.ac.za/sites/corporate/default/About/Employment-at-Unisa/Jobs-and-careers). The responsibilities of the Adjunct Lecturers/Adjunct Academics in terms of Philosophy will focus upon various aspects of teaching and learning within undergraduate Philosophy modules. 

The undergraduate curriculum at the University of South Africa is comprised of the following modules:

  • PLS1501: Introduction to Western Philosophy
  • PLS1502: Introduction to African Philosophy
  • PLS2601: Critical Reasoning
  • PLS2602: African Ethics and Politics
  • PLS2607: Philosophy of Science
  • PLS3701: Theoretical and Applied Ethics
  • PLS3702: Modern Philosophy
  • PLS3703: Advanced African Philosophy
  • PLS3705: Political Philosophy
  • PLS3709: Advanced Western Philosophy

The minimum academic requirement for these positions is a Master's degree in Philosophy, although a PhD in Philosophy would be preferable. Foreign qualifications should be provided with SAQA verification.

Closing date for applications is: 7th November 2025, and the date of assumption of duty will be 1st January 2026.

Remuneration is commensurate with the seniority of the position
