UKZN, PMB will be hosting a conference on all aspects of feminist philosophy on 11 & 12 July 2024. We encourage both establish scholars and postgraduates to submit abstracts. The conference will focus primarily on feminist philosophy, but we also have a limited number of slots available for feminist work outside philosophy.
While there has been a great deal of feminist scholarship and activism in southern Africa, feminist philosophy in particular has not been at the forefront of local philosophy. This conference seeks to increase the profile of feminist philosophy in southern Africa, by bringing together scholars who are doing philosophical work that fits under a broad definition of feminist scholarship, either in terms of feminist content or feminist methodology. We are especially interested in feminist work in African philosophy. We are also keen to include any work that deals with the interconnection of gender with other forms of oppression, such as racism, classism, homophobia, transphobia, and the like.
Scope: Any work in feminist philosophy, broadly construed. Work-in-progress is welcome. (A limited number of slots are available for work in feminist activism, arts, or work in other disciplines.)
Abstracts: No more than 350 words.
Abstract submission deadline: 30 April, but early acceptance is available for abstracts submitted by 31 March and 15 April, respectively.
Email submissions to: SAfe...@gmail.com
Some funding for postgrad speakers may be available. Please note on your submission if you require funding to attend.
