Overview

Experienced and well-qualified professionals, executives and leaders in all fields are invited to apply for admission to the intellectually challenging Postgraduate Programme in Applied Ethics offered by the Wits Philosophy Department. This programme, which will develop participants’ capacity to reason critically, constructively and responsibly about significant ethical issues, is part-time and specially designed to accommodate the schedules of working professionals in the Gauteng area. It leads to a Master of Arts degree (by course work and Research Report) in 2 years.

 

Courses offered include:

Methods of Applied Ethics (core course), Cultural Pluralism and Ethics, Ethics and the Environment, Ethics and International Affairs, Ethical Theory, Information and Privacy, Issues in Biomedical Ethics, Morality and the Law, Morality and the Marketplace, Social Justice, The Value of Life.

 

Acceptance Requirements

Applications are now being accepted for classes beginning in February or March of 2023.

 

Deadline:

• 15 November 2022 (SA citizens and permanent residents)

• 30 September 2022 (international applicants).

 

Interested persons should:

• Have qualifications at NQF level 8 (e.g. 3-year degree plus Honours or PG-Dip)

• Have at least one year’s experience in a professional, managerial, or leadership position;

• Possess very strong English comprehension and writing skills;

• Have ready and convenient access to e-mail and the internet;

• Be able to attend seminars on Saturday mornings on the Wits Campus (approx. 16 in the first year, 8 in the second).
