Dear Colleagues
The Ali Mazrui Centre for Higher Education Studies at the University of Johannesburg is pleased to announce the Black Archive Volume Workshop.
Date: 02–03 May 2025
Venue: Johannesburg Business School | University of Johannesburg
We are excited to announce the upcoming Black Archive Volume Workshop, a dynamic two-day event bringing together leading scholars, thinkers, and activists to shape the future of Black thought, memory, and resistance through archival work.
Hosted by the University of Johannesburg, this workshop will open with a keynote debrief by Prof. Siseko H. Kumalo, setting the tone for critical engagements with the aims and objectives of the Black Archive.
Contributors from across South African institutions, including Rhodes University, the University of Pretoria, the South African Human Rights Commission, UWC, Stellenbosch University, Wits, and UJ, will explore the rich intersections of Black intellectual traditions, decolonial theory, and archival practice.
This is more than a workshop — it is a space of collective theorising, radical imagination, and epistemic restoration.
Don’t miss this powerful gathering of voices working to expand the boundaries of knowledge through the Black Archive.
