Dear Colleagues and Friends,
I am producing a youtube Interview Programme titled “Frontiers in African Philosophy. It is a programme of the Conversational School of Philosophy aimed at introducing new African philosophy ideas to students, academics, policy-makers and the general public.
Inspiration and Description
In researching for my PhD, I came across many works I never knew existed in African philosophy. In reading these works, I discovered that most authors in African philosophy do not read nor cite one another. Often, different scholars discuss the same idea without citing each other. While younger ones cite mainly older scholars whose works are well-known, older ones do not cite younger ones most times. How do these work pass peer review if not that peers are also not familiar with each other's works. Added to this is the well-known fact that African philosophy ideas do not influence policy in society because most government officials do not read journal articles and books. To promote fresh ideas and cut down on the delay time between publication and classroom or government institutions and agencies, I have come up with the idea of a live critical interview beamed on social media in which an author of an African philosophy book, chapter or article containing new ideas (or critical rejoinders to new ideas) responds to questions aimed at introducing such a work to students, colleagues, policy-makers and the general public. The programme will be hard and fun.
