About SideQuests:

The spirit of philosophy is embodied by the need to reflect on all aspects of life, even those that fall outside the scope of academic research. Our aim is to create a platform where both academic and non-academic philosophers can explore such reflections independent of the academic milieu, while at the same time providing a broader audience with an opportunity to engage with philosophy outside of the ivory tower of academia.

Our aims and audience:

SideQuests: A Magazine of Philosophical Reflections has two main aims. The first is to provide both academic and non-academic philosophers an opportunity to explore ideas that intrigue them – but that fall outside of the scope of their research – in a more informal setting, and in no more than 800 - 1200 words. The second aim is to create a platform that makes philosophy accessible to a broader audience and releases the spirit of philosophy from the confines of the ivory tower. It is for both contributors and readers who believe that a ‘love of wisdom’ can, and should, be shared by all. Thus, our audience is not just philosophers in academia, but also people outside academia who love philosophy. The general tone of the magazine is informal and accessible, such that a broader audience can understand our publications (to paraphrase one contributor: write as though you're explaining your ideas to your mother).
