Dear Colleagues and Postgraduate Students,
I hope this message finds you well.
I am writing to share an important update regarding the 4th Annual South African Postgraduate Philosophy Society (SAPPS) Symposium 2026, which will take place in person at the University of the Free State (UFS) in Bloemfontein from 25–28 June 2026.
SAPPS remains committed to fostering a supportive yet rigorous platform for postgraduate philosophical research. The symposium is designed to provide postgraduate students with the opportunity to present work emerging from their degree projects—whether proposals, chapter drafts, research papers, or completed dissertations and theses—and to receive constructive feedback within a collegial academic environment.
Extended Call for Abstracts
We are pleased to announce an extended call for abstracts.
🗓
New (final) abstract submission deadline: 8 May 2026
📩 Notification
of acceptance (extended call): By 15 May 2026
Please note that this is the final call for abstracts, and no submissions received after 8 May 2026 will be accepted.
All other submission guidelines remain unchanged, as outlined in the attached updated Call for Abstracts .
For those who submitted abstracts under the original deadline, notifications of acceptance will be sent on 10 April 2026, as previously communicated.
Registration Fee Update
Due to unforeseen financial constraints, we regret to inform you that the registration fee has been increased.
• For applicants from the original call for abstracts, the registration fee will be R250
• For applicants submitting under the extended call, the registration fee will be R300
We sincerely apologise for this adjustment and appreciate your understanding. The fee continues to cover refreshments and lunches throughout the symposium, and all registered participants will still be invited to a conference dinner, free of charge.
Invitation
The SAPPS Symposium seeks to foster serious philosophical engagement, collegial exchange, and a vibrant postgraduate intellectual community. We are excited to host you, and we are planning an amazing experience—one that combines rigorous discussion with a welcoming and supportive atmosphere.
We warmly encourage those who have not yet submitted abstracts to take advantage of this final opportunity, and we look forward to welcoming both new and returning participants to Bloemfontein.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at sappssymp...@gmail.com.
Kind regards,
William Shaer
