Savitarsvitɑːr/) is a supervillain appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. An immensely powerful speedster that leads a cult dedicated to the Speed Force, he has battled Wally West, Jay Garrick, and Barry Allen.[1]

Savitar was originally an unnamed pilot for a third-world nation that was to test a supersonic fighter jet during the Cold War. As he reached top speed, his plane was struck by what appeared to be lightning and he went down in hostile territory. Discovering he could defeat the enemy by moving at super-speed, he became obsessed, naming himself after the Hindu "god of motion" Savitar and dedicating his life to unlocking its secrets. As he studied, Savitar discovered new powers that no other living speedster has mastered. He can protect himself in a null-inertia force field, give speed and kinetic energy to objects or people, even those in a "rest state", and he could also heal his own injuries almost instantly.[4]

Savitar's obsession gained followers, and he became the leader of a cult. In search of more knowledge, he sought out the only super-speed hero operating at the time: Johnny Quick. This encounter became a battle, the tide of which was turned with Max Mercury's arrival leading Savitar toward the Speed Force, but causing him to bounce off, both speedsters being thrown forward in time. Emerging from the timestream before Savitar, Max Mercury became a mentor to the Flash family's various members and other speedsters, secretly preparing them against the day Savitar would exit the timestream.[4]

Reappearing decades later, Savitar found that his cult had grown in his absence, awaiting his return. He recruited former Blue Trinity member Lady Flash (Christina Alexandrova), and discovered a way to use the woman's speed to divert all energy from the Speed Force to his own army of ninjas. He then sought to eliminate the competition: The Flash (Wally West), Impulse, Golden Age Flash (Jay Garrick), Johnny Quick, Jesse Quick, XS and Max Mercury.[5]

Wally's direct Speed Force connection prevented Savitar from stealing Wally's speed, and a coalition of just about every speedster (except for Red Trinity) foiled his plans. Hell-bent on at least destroying the Flash's world in retribution, Savitar led Wally on a worldwide race of destruction, until the Flash chose to give Savitar what he wanted: union with the Speed Force. His earlier encounter had shown him that the others who had arrived before would deal with Savitar as they saw fit.[6]

In The Flash Rebirth mini-series, Savitar was able to escape from the Speed Force. He was run down by the Flash (Barry Allen) but Savitar disintegrates when the Flash touches him, leaving only a pile of bones.[7] It is revealed that Professor Zoom altered Barry's Speed Force connection to make the Flash shift in reverse, cursed to kill every Speed Force user with a single touch until a conflict between the Flash and Zoom.[8] Savitar, Lady Savitar (Christina Alexandrova) and Johnny Quick have been killed by this effect.[9][10]

A retcon following Infinite Frontier establishes that Savitar, escaping his imprisonment at Barry's hands in the Speed Force, was responsible for the deaths at Sanctuary in Heroes in Crisis, not Wally as originally believed. The explosion was caused as the Speed Force attempted to eject Savitar at various points along the timeline, succeeding at Sanctuary. Battling Wally during a frozen moment in time, Wally brings him back to the present, leaving recorded history untouched, before defeating Savitar and adding his power to his own.[12]

Savitar can move at super-speed, and is able to lend or steal speed from moving objects. He has accelerated healing due to increased metabolism and can generate a null Inertia force field.[citation needed]

@darksuperspideyman: Only on the show is Savitar the fastest... Godspeed hasn't even appeared on the show. So what is this battle exactly? Comic book Godspeed vs TV show Savitar? Or comic Godspeed vs comic Savitar? Either way Godspeed FTW.

Savitar entered the speedforce - which requires to be at least lightspeed - twice, while Godspeed has no lightspeed feat, I mean, I don't think even New 52 Barry has any ftl feat (at least not that I can recall).

@wewlad80: Even tho Iris herself who has info on future events knew Wally can't beat Savitar, that Wally himself said Savitar is as fast as him, that Savitar ragdolled everyone in the story besides Wally, including Jesse, Max and Jay at the same time and all three of them have FTL speed feats. Or that Max who is Speed Force expert said Savitar is faster than him which is impressive because Max is the fastest member of the Flash Family excluding Barry and Wally.

Except GodSpeed Actually has Superior Physical Stats (Godspeed has metahuman stats meanwhile Savitar is peak+ Speedforce connection like most speedsters) and more Versatile powers (What does Savitar have against Clones) ?

@oblivionhuntx: GodSpeed can Literally lift a dude covered in Armor with One arm Casually while having a conversation while Vibrating the guy's body at superspeed. Before that, He Literally Picks up Two guys (who are also covered in armor) in both hands while moving and Just Phases them into the walls.

@wewlad80: Cant compare in the stats department? Savitar is so much faster than godspeed that its not even funny. And no, godspeed's speedsteal is not the same as Savitar, Wally and Jay. Not even close.

You got it backwards, Godspeed has no faster than light feats, as all he has done was beat rebirth barry and shown he can be in two places at once.Which honestly isn't enough to put him on Savitar's level.

@wewlad80: Based on the fact that Savitar has a proper lightspeed feat (entering the speedforce), while godspeed doesnt have anything close to it. Savitar was also said to be faster than Max Mercury and Johnny Quick, plus, he was able to blitz them and Jesse. He was also stated to be as fast as Wally, but with all of his speedforce manipulation he became "better" than Wally. While Godspeed... He beat New 52 Barry, not even worth scaling that. And his speedsteal isnt really "speed"steal, its speedforce steal, which he can only do by running much faster than the other person and the other person has to have a weak link to the speedforce.

I love to make respect threads, especially about characters who don't have one (in or out of vine). And because Savitar is the villain in Season 3 of the Flash TV Show (everybody knows it, some people love it, some people hate it, most people watch it), I decided to make a respect thread for comic book version of Savitar so you people can see how powerful he is in the comics. Please don't spoil anything about Season 3, I have yet to watch it.

Savitar is the main villain of the story Dead Heat written by Mark Waid. He battled Wally West, Jay Garrick, Max Mercury, Bart Allen and Jesse and John Quick. He is actually responsible for death of Johnny Quick (in a way). Besides flashbacks and references, Savitar made only one appearance outside of the story. As for his origin, The Flash Family found out about it while reading one of Max Mercury's files. Savitar is actually the reason why Max gathered the Flash Family, so they can stop him. His origin is also explained in Flash Secret Files #1 (1997) and The DC Comics Encyclopedia #2 - DC Comics Encyclopedia Updated and Expanded (2008).

As stated in Files and Origins #1, Savitar is extremely knowledgeable on Speed Force Velocity. He is even greater expert than Jay Garrick and Eobard Thawne and rivaled only by Max Mercury. He was studying, learning and doing research about the Speed Force as much as he could. It became his new religion Flash Vol. 2 #109

When Max, Johnny and Jesse chased Savitar in his own temple, they found out that he has a whole library full of books and scrolls that contain information about the velocity and the Speed Force. Max assumes that most of the stuff they could read in the library was written by Savitar himself Impulse #11.

Savitar is extremely fast. Throughout the entire story he was shown to be more powerful than the entire Flash Family (besides Wally). Max himself claims that Savitar is incredibly strong and faster than both Johnny and Max Flash Vol. 2 #109

During the time Wally was fighting Savitar, Iris (Wally's Aunt) had information about what will happen in the future and when she decided to reveal it, Jennie Ognats (Bart's cousin) came to Wally to tell him about it. Based on Iris's statement, Wally can't beat Savitar Flash Vol. 2 #111

This makes sense considering the fact that throughout the entire story when Savitar was using his speed, he was introduced as being equal to Wally and is as fast and stronger than him based on Wally's own statement in the same issue in the same fight before Jennie came to him.

Savitar has the ability to tap into the Speed Force which requires faster than light travel. He did that in his first fight with Max Mercury. Max came out while Savitar was stuck there for decades Flash Vol. 2 #109

Savitar has enhanced durability. After Wally came out of the Speed Force (Flash Vol. 2 #100), he became much more powerful and his power set was changed, adding new set of abilities, one of which is the ability to blow up the molecules he phased through. Wally used that tactic on Savitar while phasing through trees. The explosion did not make Savitar move an inch and it wasn't able to slow him down even for a nanosecond Flash Vol. 2 #111.

While Speedsters have the ability to heal extremely fast, Savitar's healing is much faster and more effective. He healed from a stab wound in a second. A knife was thrown at him by Wally Flash Vol. 2 #110
