Hi all,

If you have DStv, and also receive a very poor signal for
SABC 2 and 3, then this might help you. Whilst fiddling around
with my Pace 600, I found that going to "Alternative Networks"
and setting up any one of them as follows will give you the
SABC channels.

You need to ENABLE the alternate network, and enter the data:

Frequency: 12730
SR : 20000
Pol : V
FEC : 3/4

Now when you select the alternative network from the remote
(press the green TV button twice, and then select OK) you
will have SABC 3, SABC 2 and Mr Price Channel available on
DStv.

I don't know if this is a permanent setup, or if these channels
will soon vanish, but the picture quality is as good as the
analog SABC channels.

SeeYa!

Any ideas about how we can get that on the old Pace 500 ? If at all
possible.

Thanks!

You can use the manual tuning facility on the DVR500, BUT there is a
problem! The Pace 500 goes into parental lock and there is nothing one can
do to override it.

SENTECH is working on the problem.

Nice one Greg. And in Stereo too!

Can throw away the analogue reciever now...

Cheers

Dean

PS I wonder what else is out there that we are not told about??

I have the Pace 500 at work. Let's see...

1. Select Menu
2. Press "6" - Installation
3. Key in pin - 9949 and OK
4. Goto (4) Manual Channel Tuning
5. Make a note of your current settings
6. Retune with the new settings

Hmmm.... All I now get is Parental Control Lock. Can't seem
to unblock it though. Pity. I do get the SABC 2 and 3 info
at the bottom of my screen, but that is as far as it goes.

However, the smartcard at work is for commercial use, with
only Supersport, ESPN and Sky news enabled, so perhaps that
is why I cannot get anything?

Nope, it is not the smartcard - I also get it on my normal 'home use'
card. I even removed the card and then the CA module - still get the
parental lock thing - anybody got a diagram of the Pace 500 box so
that one can bypass the thing?/..;-)

I will try to get hold of Pace to see what they say about this.

Greg how the heck did you manage to find this out in the first place!
Please tell me you were given this information and you wern't just playing
arround with settings....

But thanks a stack, my parents are really impressed now as there SABC had a
really bad reception, some nights could hardly even see th picture.

Just a pity about the Pace 500 not being able to get it... I wonder if you
can trade the 500 in for a 600 anywhere???

I must admit I really prefer the 500 over the 600 the software seems a lot
quicker and very much more responsive, and I hate the EPG in the 600 having
to hit a 3 to see the next program is really frustrating.

But at least the 600 can get SABC even though its slow in switching between
the two.

Thanks once again!!!!

Hi

I can confirm that this also works on the SMS... Well sorta.

My picture breaks-up into little blocks, disappears and then gets back,
stabilises for awhile (30seconds - 1 minute), and then starts breaking up
again. This especially happens when there is any movement onscreen, which
due to the nature of TV is kinda often. :-)

All DSTV channels are 100%, the above only happens on the SABC channels.
Possibly my OpenTV software needs an upgrade?

The other possibility is that the dish isnt 100% on target, and as the
channels are way up in the frequency range, perhaps Im not getting the full
signal. Is this possible?

(SMS=Sun Moon Star)

I have a Pace 600s. I tried the above procedure but have had no luck.

Greg

If the parental lock issue is solved for the Pace 500, what does it take to
switch to one of
the SABC channels?

Do you have to do the procedure every time, or are you setting a "program"
number to the SABC channels and then just calling up the program number when
you want SABC?

cheers

Unless someone at Pace decides to rewrite the software for the 500 that
will give us some sort of menu option to change to alternate network, we
will be forced to go through the manual tuning option each time.. Thats
even if they can fix the parental lock problem......

I wont hold my breath for this to happen, as something tells me they would
rather have the owners of 500 series decoders upgrade to a 600 series, and
this would be the ideal way to force the change.

I wouldn't do that just yet ;-) You will need it to get BOP TV
from 1st March.

Not a lot from PAS4. Maybe it will be better when PAS7 flies.

All the information you need is on the internet. The ONLY place to go is
to Peter Spickett's home page, and all the links you need are from
there.
Try http://www.geocities.com/~pspickett/

The link to what is available on PAS4, along with all the frequencies
and settings are available from Peter's page. Just look for the the
reference to PAS4.

I don't know if this will be free-to-air, or how long it will be
available for, but at least it is something new to play with ;-)

Hmmm.... this is one of the old faults with DStv. Maybe they don't
use enough power on this transponder, and the SMS has some sort of
decoding problem with the weaker signal. With the Pace 600 the
picture and sound are perfect for SABC2 and SABC3.

I doubt that could be the problem, but I am certainly no technical
expert.

I suspect that the DVR500 will be upgraded to accept alternate
networks as well - when, I am not sure - but don't throw the old
DVR500 out yet....

Cheers
