Here follows documents that were compiled to help viewers receive the Vivid
buoquet :

SETUP PROCEDURES FOR RECIEVING SENCOM MULTIPLEX

Decoders not supported are the Pace 500. Since the software of DStv decoders
are controlled by Multichoice, Sentech cannot ensure that all DStv decoders
can receive the signal, as is the case with the older generation of decoders
due to certain hardware limitations. Sentech’s signal is MPEG2, DVB
compliant and should be able to be received by any MPEG2 – DVB compliant
decoder.

PANASAT 520, 642 & SMS

1. With your decoder on MNET, channel 1.
2. Press "Menu" and go to "Advanced Options"
3. Go to "Change Dish Installation"
4. Enter password "9949"
5. Go to "Change Manual Tuning Parameters"
6. Enter Frequency : 12729
Symbol Rate : 26657
Polarization : Horizontal
FEC : 3/4
7. Press "OK"
8. Press "Exit"
9. Go to "Signal Detection"
10. Press "Exit" three times.
11. It will then start scanning 1 of 9 Transports instead of 1 of 7.
(The two extra ones are these of Sentech.) If it initially do not go into
scanning mode, remove the power form the IRD, and re-apply.
12. To view these channels you press "TV" and select the bottom
bouquet. On the old software it used to say "Public Bouquet" on
the new software it is blank. Press the P+ or P- button until
you see the desired channel.

My eerlike voorstel aan enige
persoon wat nog nie ‘n DStv dekodeerder besit nie en wat nie belangstel om
‘n intekenaar van DStv te wil word nie, maar slegs belangstel in Sentech se
Vivid bouquet dan eerder ‘n Vivid dekodeerder bekom.
“Universal” LNB. Sterkte !

Hi (Anot R User)

Thanks for the info. Naturally I set my PACE 610 with the given data and
was able to view the Vivid bouquet, but.....

I am only able to view the Vivid or the Dstv bouquet IF they are configured
as the "Home Network".

There are config settings for up to 8 alternate networks and I have tried
placing the Vivid and DStv settings in these but when I switch to any of the
configured alternates I am only able to see the first 6 channels...Vivid's
mosiac on 3 works fine, DStv TMMC on 2 is ok but only the first 6 channels
show up in the EPG!?

I get the feeling that this is a software issue? Anyone else with a 610 who
can shed some light on this? The helpdesk are far from helpful in terms of
upgrades.

Thanx.

configured vivid as alternative networks, i only have 5 channels, all
scrambled. once vivid set as home network, all is fine, but can't see dstv
stuff then ..

*sigh*

I agree that this sounds like a software problem. Try updating your software
and try again. If it still cannot receive the channels, we will try
something different.

I followed the procedure posted for my Pace 610 and it worked fine.

Initially, the TV key presented 4 blank bouquets, although selecting the top one
for DStv and the fourth one for Vivid worked fine. Later in the evening, the
different bouquets' names were visible on the menu (Vivid remains the blank one in
position 4). Last time I checked, it was still working fine.

The decoder software was upgraded. Because of other problems, I took it in to
Multichoice to test. They loaded the latest software upgrade. Of course, the LNB
must be capable to receive PAS7 (must to receive DStv anyway).

Interestingly, during tuning I seem to get a slightly higher BER reading for the
Sentech channels than for the DStv channels, according to the on screen display.

Hi all

I have just spoken to Ronald via the DSTV helpdesk.

I explained that I have been a DSTV subscriber for some 3 or 4 years, that I
am on my second decoder AND that I still have the same problems!

Zero software upgrades.

This has been an issue since day dot with my original decoder (a Samsung),
All you hear is ".......the 'new' software is under test......"! If I had a
rand for everytime I heard that I would have bought the company! I use to
deal with Eugene at Samsung and in the end I just gave up. I could not go
on with a decoder that could not go over channel 40!

So I receive a Pace 610 and yes I have the channels but as Multichoice
release new DSTV features ...grouped channels and category search facilities
the Pace falls behind again.....check for a software upgrade and guess
what....".......the 'new' software is under test......"! Don't forget that
a new decoder the SMS (from MultiChoice) is available which can do all of
this! Am I now expected to get this decoder?

Now when I try and load the Vivid bouquet as an alternative network I really
get to see the "buggy" software come to light!

Is there a representative from MultiChoice or DSTV out there who has
actually knows and cares for his clients problems? I wonder if they know of
this newgroup?

.......and Ronald's comment : ".......the 'new' software is under
test......"! IN IRELAND!!!!!!!! (for some five months!)

If I was a computer virus writer I know who my first victim would be!

Yours in chaos!

Hi Matt

Would it be possible for you to have a look what software revision you have.
I will get my detail tonight. This will help a lot in determining who is
running on what. As I am typing this I am on the phone to DSTV again to see
if they can tell me what they think the latest revision is?............
Aha they say I must contact Pace as they do not do the upgrade themselves.
Hmmmmmm!

Hi

I have spoken to a great guy at Pace and he says that I have a really OLD
revision of the software, bring the decoder in and they will sort it out in
half and hour! What are the DSTV clowns up to? Why all the runaround?

I will keep you posted.

Hi to Constant,

Firstly, I must thank Constant on behalf of all this Newsgroup's readers for his
patience re this problem.

I also have a Multichoice DSD 660, but also after following his instructions to
the letter, all I receive is one unnamed bouquet with TMMC on Channel 2 etc, and
no eTV!!

I bought my decoder in April last year so it should be fairly new. However,
everytime I try a software upgrade over the air, I receive a failure reply.

Anybody else out there experience a similar problem with the Multichoice
decoder?

Regards to everybody.

Hi Gerald,

With regards to the failure reply on the upgrade.. You'll find that your
decoder has the most up-to-date software, hence the failure reply.

Hi all

Well after a run-around I have my Pace 610 working with the DSTV and Vivid
bouquets!

Thanks to Constant for the detail, to Pace for correcting my decoder and NO
thanks to Multichoices' helpdesk (Jeez guys how can you not know what
software the SA decoders are supposed to be running... It's not as if we
have these multitudes to choose from).

JC, it would appear that your decoder has the incorrect contry code
programmed in! (Who knows why?) If you have a look at the loader version
you will probably see an ERR. No off-air upgrade will take place if this is
the case. You will need to take the decoder to Pace and have them change
the code, then the off-air upgrade will take place and then you can perform
the procedures as given by Constant.
(Pace want R45 to do the upgrade...I drove home and did it).

My decoder shows the current software release as OTV V2.3.01a M 18/08/1999
and the loader now shows 3.1 2:0:4:OK (not ERR!).

Have fun. Let us know how it goes.

cheers

Hi there!

The 660's we have got (and on which it works very nicely) has the following
information:

1) Software date 02/09/99
2) Hardware version 19.0

If your software is older than this, I suggest you try updating, otherwise I
am not sure what the problem could be.

May I suggest that people who have got their systems working nicely send the
model, the software and the hardware versions to this group - that way it
would be easy to see if it would be necessary to upgrade in order to receive
the Vivid services.

Best regards

And here's my plea for help...

What's going on in those small heads of MultiChoice ? I've been a subscriber
for almost 4 1/2 years now. Hence I'm STUCK with the Pace 500 decoder. Now
make no mistake, the first software the decoder came out with was great! Who
can still remember that dark blue scheme that never crashed ? Now I'm
CONSTANTLY plagued with "Fatal Error DSD Now Resetting" after which the
system reboots and proceeds to scan the entire network.

To top all of this, MultiChoice decided to use the OpenTV software
structure. Now this is actually some good news for owners of OTHER
Decoders... as MultiChoice can ATTEMPT to add features to the decoder like
online games, shopping and the infamous Mosaic Channel selector gadget. But,
once again I'm stuck with an inferior decoder incapable of even doing a
simple channel change without receiving a Fatal Error message.

I'm not expecting Multichoice to give me a new decoder for free, but why not
exchange the really old ones (like the Pace 500 and the Samsung) for a newer
up-to-date one at a subsidised amount. After all, we pay almost R300 now for
a non-entertaining service whilst a few years ago they promised us the
world. At least they can give us decoders that don't have to reset every 2
hours and are somewhat functional.

They should have thought this out beforehand. If they planned to introduce
Interactive services they should've circulated Decoders that can handle
future upgrades. The PCMCIA slot on MOST decoders could've been used to ADD
more Memory or load the OpenTV software.

All in All MultiChoice should watch out, because it's customers are getting
sick of tired of their treatment.
