It's not tough to find out. Just go to your menu, select the
"organisation" section (wherever that is in your particular
IRD's menu), and select "UNSORT".

Then press, "Exit" followed by the EPG. All the channels will
be listed one underneath each other.

If you're too lazy to do that, here is a very outdated listing
which I posted to this newsgroup on the 18th November last year:

Hi MIke,

Hope you don't mind my using your address as a means of obtaining info.

you seem to be pretty up to scratch with this technology.

I am trying to ascertain wether it is possible to install a DSTV
system into a townhouse complex and have both vertical and horizontal
frequencies available to all the units in the complex.

What are the implications for distribution?

Will this require double cabling, two dishes etc?

Or is there existing technology that will allow occupants to
access both horizontal and vertical frequencies from their
decoders?

I would appreciate any help that you can give on this one.

Thanks.

Thanks for embellishing my list Brian (including my typos), but
the abbreviation for transponder is "tp" and not "Tr".

P> CNN International, Bloomberg Information TV 24h, Sky News, EBN and
P> Deutsche Welle TV 24h)

The channels are where they are because of a reason. DStv use a
certain bit rate per channel, depending on its content. Each channel
is allocated a fixed bit rate of either 3, 5 or 7 Mbits/sec, and
each 27 MHz bandwidth half-transponder (remove about 1 MHz for
the guardband) can deliver approximately 45 Mb/s total. So, if you
deduct the 3/4 FEC from the vertically polarised channels, and 5/6
from the horizontal ones, you'll know just why these channels are
where they are (and also explains why they moved Carlton Select).

As long as DStv continue to use the antiquated FBR system they
presently have operational, and refuse to upgrade their equipment
to VBR multiplexers, we'll continue to be plagued by their
high level of MPEG-2 artefacts.

Huh? Send your IRD back. The settling time for channel switching is
between 2.5 to 4 seconds, and the time devoted to polarisation
and/or frequency change is negligible.

If you want the channels in a particular order, you can sort them
yourself ("organising services" on the menu).

Not on a Samsung.

This is Chris replying, since I've done exactly what you requested
several times:

You need:
Dish + LNB
Distribution amplifier
Tap-offs and splitters (satellite ready)
Outlets in each flat.

Each flat requires an IRD
You must balance the system properly, getting the layout right to
achieve correct impedance
You usually use 10mm ultra low-loss co-ax cable.

Work on R1000 per point, then you'll get an idea of the cost.

Chris
