This is a monthly posting to the schoolza distribution list.
Although every attempt is made to keep the list of schools up to date, I
rely on schools to let me know when they begin to use email on the
internet. Please mail me if you know of any schools that are connected
to the internet that are not yet on this list.
The list of schools is maintained by Tim Bouwer, Rhodes University
Computing Services and changes or additions can be mailed to me at

Please note that the definition of "school" in Southern Africa excludes
Tertiary education (Colleges or University) even though some secondary
schools call themselves Colleges. The school going ages for most
Southern Africans is from around 6yrs old to around 17years old (assuming
you move up a standard every year).

This list of connected schools in Southern Africa is posted to the Usenet
newsgroup and the schoolza distribution lists at the begining of each
month.
A copy of the latest version of this list is available via anonymous FTP
from giraffe.ru.ac.za ~/pub/schools/schools.lst

2. School Terms

Non-South African subscribers should please take note that our school
year starts in mid-January and ends early in December. Older pupils
are usually involved in examinations from mid-November.

To register your school in the official 'school.za' domain is not difficult
to do. Its as easy as sending some e-mail to 'm...@Olivetti.za'.. with
some general info such as where your school is...
The reason to do so is to present a generallly organised picture of all the
schools in the country. This is a free service - except for the time spent.

Schoolza is a "majordomo" mailserver maintained by Rhodes University.
The schoolza list is intended for people involved in, or interested in

This listserver is now gated to the usenet newsgroup za.schools
Since many of the schools that are connected only have email
