If anyone else was pissed off at the SABC cancelling Star Trek
yesterday because the golf (which had been showing since 2:00)
ran longer than expected, please phone the SABC at:

(011) 330-9797 and complain.

The SABC regard one phone call as representing 20,000 viewers,
and they are *always* picking on Star Trek. They show it at
a stupid time (7 o'clock) as if it's for kids. They also used
to show it on a Sunday at 6 o'clock - and then it got bumped
more often than not.

South African's may be sport crazy, but enough is enough.
Yesterday there were five simultaneous channels broadcasting
sport (SABC1, SABC3, AstraSport, SuperSport and ESPN), and
poor Star Trek fans have to suffer.

If they can record and broadcast the Canadian F1 Grand Prix
later, they could surely have broadcast the golf later? The
reason people are not paying their damn TV licences is because
the SABC are *not* giving them what they pay for.

I agree, the SABC is sport mad, one of the reasons I fled towards
satelite TV.

For what its worth : Here in Boston Startrek (Next Gen) airs at 19:00 on
the public channels and Deep Space 9 after that. It is of course
available on channel as well.

: I`m sooo glad to hear what you`re saying Ian `cos I was beginning to think
: I was the only one. Listen I think it`s time for some action. Every time
: someone finds out that some or other highly rated programe is being moved
: out of it`s time slot for sport... we all phone SABC repeatedly. So
: if 15 people call that "statistically" represents 15 x 20 000 =300 000
: people! So what we need is a new discussion group or you can send mail to
: me and I`ll forward it to the appropriate people who feel the same way.
: I`ll try to build up a list of names of people who want to be notified and
: warn them A.S.A.P.
: If you have any suggestions, I`ll be listening.

Yes, I suggest that you post your gripes on za.misc, and tell
anyone interested to phone the SABC on (011) 330-9797 and complain.

[climb on soapbox]

South Africans tend to be very apathetic, and they never complain.
Most of them sit on their fat arses and think; "someone else will
complain, I'm sure". Makes me sick.

South Africans deserve all the shit service they get. If more
South Africans got up and complained about shitty service and
bad workmanship, maybe some suppliers would actually do something
about it. How often I hear (when I complain); "but no-one else
has complained", and I always feel like a prick because it seems
that I'm the only one who can see the shitty service/product.

Ian.
