Preliminary request for participation: WebMaster Job Analysis

This is a urgent request for participation in a research project that I
am carrying out as
part of my Master’s Degree in Information Studies (M.Inf) at the Rand
Afrikaans University
(South Africa).

Within this study I plan to carry out an extensive Job Analysis of the
WebMaster position
and any other people involved with WebSite development within the
organisation. Unfortunately
there are not many detailed literature resources on this subject and I
therefore would like to
call for participants ("volunteers") to take part in this study to
obtain a objective view of
this aspect - international if possible and as many as possible.

If you should decide to participate, please forward me the following
general information that
will be used to compile a more detailed questionnaire to be completed at
a later stage:

· Your name
· Age
· Gender
· Qualifications (University degrees, diplomas, etc.)
· Job Title
· Company/Organisation Title
· What is the primary activity of your company?
· Are you a full time employee/contractor/consultant?
· How long have you been employed in your current position? (i.e. as a
WebMaster)
· What are your promotion possibilities and to what position?
· How many people/fellow employees are there in your team and how many
of them is involved with
Web development? (If possible please forward a copy of this
questionnaire to all other team
members)
· Do you have a supervisor/manager?
· Do you have a Job description (a written statement of the main duties
and responsibilities
which a job entails)?
· If YES please forward a copy to pvd...@ibi.co.za
· If NO what do YOU think should be included in a Job
description for a WebMaster?
· Do you have a Job Specification (a list of criteria in terms of the
personal capacities and
inclinations deemed necessary for successful job performance)?

· If NO what do YOU think should be included in a Job
specification for a WebMaster?
· What is you annual salary/wages? - Do you think this is satisfactory
taking into consideration
your skills and type of work you are doing?
· Do you have adequate resources? i.e. equipment, software tools, etc.

If you can think of any additional comments or aspects that need to be
addressed please feel free
to add them to the list.

A more detailed form will be made available on the Web after the more
general questions have been
answered and worked through. You will again be invited to complete this
form - but this time it
will be much more easier and less typing!

Final results of this study will be made available either online or in
paper format.
